Job Summary: The Associate Producer plays a crucial role in the production of daily newscasts and special programming. This position involves coordinating content, assisting with scriptwriting, designing basic graphics, and ensuring that broadcasts run smoothly and meet Griffin Media’s high standards for quality and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

• Write news stories, teases, scripts, and promos, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to journalistic standards. Proofread reporter packages for content and grammar, ensuring compliance with legal and journalistic standards as well as the time allotted.
• Assist in selecting, organizing, and coordinating news stories, video, and graphics for daily newscasts.
• Provide real-time support during live broadcasts, including script changes, timing
• adjustments, and communication with on-air talent.
• Responsible for the organization, coordination, and distribution of final scripts, ensuring alignment with program format and editorial objectives.
• Assist in pre-production tasks, including coordinating with team to ensure all elements of the newscast are ready.
• Work with the Producers, Executive Producers, Reporters, Anchors, and other newsroom staff to build and update show rundowns, making adjustments as needed to accommodate breaking news or last-minute changes.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.  

Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Skills and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred. Related experience will be evaluated and may be substituted as years of education.
• 1-2 years of previous newsroom experience or internship in television news, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to make quick and appropriate decisions and work collaboratively.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, with a commitment to upholding ethical standards and compliance requirements.
• Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
• Proficiency with personal computers and ability to learn new systems.
• Proficiency in newsroom software (ex. iNews) and video editing software preferred.
• Link of work and writing samples required.
• Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
