We have a full-time need for a Directional Drill Locator, in Monroe, LA.
What You’ll Do
- You’ll be responsible for identifying and mapping underground utility lines and operating machinery to install, maintain, or repair these utilities.
- This role is essential for ensuring accurate placement and safety during excavation and construction projects.
- Use specialized equipment (e.g., electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar) to accurately locate and map underground utilities such as water, gas, electric, and telecommunications lines.
- Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and other documentation to determine the location of buried infrastructure.
- Mark the location of utilities on the ground using paint, flags, or other markers.
- Operate machinery and equipment used in the installation or maintenance of underground utilities, such as trenchers, backhoes, and directional drills.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operated according to safety and operational guidelines.
- Perform routine inspections and minor repairs on equipment as needed.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of oneself and others on the job site.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards related to underground utilities.
- Conduct pre-job safety meetings and risk assessments.
- Assist in or oversee the excavation of trenches and pits for utility installation or repair.
- Support the installation of underground utilities, including laying pipes or cables and connecting them as required.
- Backfill and restore excavation sites following the completion of work.
- Maintain accurate records of utility locations, excavation activities, and equipment usage.
- Complete and submit reports detailing the work performed, any issues encountered, and any changes to utility maps or plans.
- Communicate with clients or project managers to provide updates on progress, address concerns, and ensure that project requirements are met.
- Provide clear information about potential impacts on property or services.
- Work closely with other team members, including utility crews, construction workers, and supervisors, to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Assist in training or mentoring less experienced team members as needed.
What You’ll Need
- Prior experience in utility locating, equipment operation, or a related field is typically required
- Proficiency in using utility locating equipment and tools.
- Ability to operate and maintain excavation and construction machinery.
- Strong understanding of underground utility systems and safety practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform physical tasks.
- May require certifications in utility locating, equipment operation, or safety standards (e.g., OSHA, CDL for equipment operation).
- May work outdoors in various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
- May include irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on project needs and emergencies.
