About the Position
Grid-Line Transportation is seeking an Operations Manager to lead daily execution and performance within our Dispatch & Planning department.
This role is accountable for overall department performance and execution standards. The Operations Manager leads dispatchers, planners, and load sourcing personnel by enforcing established workflows and processes, maintaining clear role separation, and ensuring consistent operational performance across the team.
This position serves as the primary escalation point for operational conflicts and ensures cross-department alignment when execution standards are at risk.
This is a leadership role focused on performance, structure, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Accountability
- Lead and manage dispatchers, planners, and load sourcing personnel in daily operations
- Maintain clear role definitions and eliminate responsibility overlap
- Monitor productivity, responsiveness, and quality of execution
- Conduct structured one-on-one meetings and performance reviews
- Hire, onboard, coach, and terminate team members as needed
- Drive a culture of discipline, clarity, and measurable results
Process Oversight, Documentation & Enforcement
- Fully understand established Dispatch & Planning processes
- Ensure processes are executed consistently and without deviation
- Maintain and formalize SOP documentation as processes are introduced or updated
- Develop and conduct training when procedures are introduced or adjusted
- Identify operational breakdowns and correct them immediately
KPI & Performance Management
- Monitor daily and weekly operational metrics
- Identify gaps in dispatch speed, planning accuracy, and load coverage
- Take corrective action when performance standards decline
- Report on trends, risks, and performance concerns
Escalation & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as escalation point for driver and customer conflicts
- Align with Sales on capacity planning and freight execution
- Coordinate with Safety on compliance and driver-related matters
- Partner with Accounting on operational issues impacting billing
- Work with Process Architects to ensure system clarity and process compliance
Qualifications
- 5 years in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations
- 3 years in transportation operations experience (required)
- 2 years managing a team in a structured environment (required)
- Proven experience managing KPIs and enforcing accountability
- Flatbed or specialized freight experience strongly preferred
- Ability to operate under pressure and make firm decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable leading performance-driven teams
Technical & Systems Competency
- Strong working knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and multi-platform operational environments (McLeod, Samsara, or similar systems preferred)
- Ability to interpret operational reports (Excel, PDF, dashboards), understand data fields and data flow, and identify inconsistencies or breakdowns
- Comfortable navigating multiple systems, understanding how information moves between them, and escalating system or process issues through proper channels
