Mid-West Textile

Chief Executive Officer

Greybull Stewardship is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Mid-West Textile, its newest portfolio company. Greybull Stewardship is a private investment firm, founded in 2010, that partners with scalable businesses to help them grow. Mid-West Textile, founded in 1982 and headquartered in El Paso, Texas, is one of the largest used textile recyclers in the United States. The company collects, sorts, and grades used clothing and textiles for thrift retailers, fiber reclamation operators, and wholesale and export buyers, and operates Thrift Town retail stores in Texas and New Mexico. The company runs production facilities in El Paso and Juárez, Mexico, and collects donated textiles under its Eco-Spot brand in partnership with Meals on Wheels across Texas, Utah, and Missouri. Mid-West Textile plays a key role in reducing post-consumer apparel waste and supplying the global secondhand market.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in driving profitable revenue growth and operating cash flow by taking a hands-on approach to the operation of the company while fostering an environment of learning and development among the team members.

The chief executive officer will:

  • provide inspired leadership and day-to-day oversight of all company activities across collection, processing, wholesale and export, and retail;
  • lead high-level decisions about objectives and strategies, with an emphasis on driving profitable revenue growth and positive operating cash flow across retail, collections, and wholesale;
  • grow wholesale and export volume and pricing while managing exposure to global used textile markets;
  • increase product supply and customer traffic in the Thrift Town retail stores and grow collections revenue;
  • build consensus and commitment among various stakeholders, often with competing priorities;
  • take an active role in developing the skills and knowledge of the team members and creating an environment that promotes great performance and positive teamwork while recruiting and attracting talent;
  • lay the groundwork for expanding the Thrift Town retail footprint.

Further, the new CEO will oversee the company’s fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, working capital, and auditing; manage exposure to global used textile pricing; work with Greybull Stewardship and the company’s stakeholders regarding the strategy for implementing the vision and mission; and ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.

CEO Requirements:

  • bachelor’s degree and ten years of proven executive leadership experience;
  • experience in a successful senior management position with full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility in a multi-site, multi-business unit, and/or commodity-exposed business;
  • a demonstrated record of growing profitable revenue and operating cash flow in a retail, wholesale, or collections business;
  • knowledge of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow management, working capital, and general finance and budgeting;
  • a proven track record and ability to build consensus and relationships among executives, partners, and the board.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • a master’s degree, MBA, or terminal degree;
  • industry experience in used textiles, thrift/secondhand retail, textile recycling, or wholesale and export;
  • experience growing a multi-unit retail footprint;
  • understanding of donation collection models, including attended donation centers, drop-box networks, and in-store programs;
  • experience leading a business through a growth-stage transformation;
  • experience managing teams and operations across the U.S.-Mexico border or other cross-border settings;
  • experience with mergers and acquisitions.
