Department: Nutrition Services

 

The job:

  • Part-time, day hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • August through May (summers off)
  • No experience needed, but food service and customer service experience is great
  • Key responsibilities: food preparation, storage, and service to children and staff; proper operation of commercial kitchen equipment; maintain clean, organized tools and work area
  • Key attributes: teamwork, positive attitude, willingness to learn, drive to maintain a healthy and safe environment, care for others, especially children
  • Pay starts at $17.45 (elementary), $17.95 (middle school) and $18.45 (high school); more with school nutrition experience

Job Type: Part-time

Schedule:

  • Day shift - Monday thru Friday
  • No nights
  • No weekends

Education Level and Certification: High school degree or GED preferred.  Possess any required Food Handler’s permit, and any other required certification and training. Previous food service experience, customer service experience, and cash handling experience preferred.
 
Reports To: Nutrition Services Manager/Head Cook.
 
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks

  1. Preparing, portioning, and serving food and beverages.
  2. Cashiering and maintaining accurate records of payments.
  3. Cleanup duties: clean and organize eating, service, and food preparation areas, wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils and other cooking equipment to ensure cleanliness and functional operation, and proper storage of leftovers.
  4. Arrange tables and decorations according to instructions.
  5. Compile and maintain records of food and beverage use and expenditures.
  6. Plan or assist with meeting special dietary or nutritional restrictions of students.
  7. Take inventory of supplies and equipment and notify cafeteria personnel of shortages and defective equipment.
  8. Train or assist with the training of new employees.
  9. Adhere to all federal and State USDA regulations and State and local Food Codes.
  10. Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal or other supervisors.
  11. Serve as a role model to all students.
  12. Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
  13. Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  14. Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  15. Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  16. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  17. Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.

 

At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
 
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the Cafeteria Worker position include: (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which require effective teaching and communication skills; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements.
