Handyperson Job Description Purpose of Position: Conduct basic to mid-level repairs to plumbing, electrical, mechanical and masonry in the building, apartments, and exterior grounds. Assistance maintaining the health and safety of the building and grounds.Role, Responsibilities, and Essential DutiesThis section contains a description of the duties and responsibilities assigned to the job; also referred to as the essential functions. They describe the fundamental nature of the job which occupies a large proportion of the employee’s time. Some items to consider:Complete tasks and work orders assigned to include but not limited to explanatory. Complete work orders within 24- 48 hours, if unable to complete report to immediate supervisor as to why and document on the work order.Communicate effectively and professionally both written and orally with residents and staff, vendors and community members to obtain details needed to complete tasks or respond to new requests. Able to access, diagnose and determine the next course of action needed to complete repairs or tasks. Qualifications/Educational RequirementsEducation High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.Experience and Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 5 year’s experience as handyman skills included but not limited to, locks, plumbing, electrical. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesSufficient familiarity with masonry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems. Theoretical and Practical knowledge of handyman duties that enable personnel to perform repairs and tasks to reduce the use of vendors, contractors, etc.Ability and willingness to learn additional skills such as licenses, and certifications for plumbing, electrical, sprinkler, etc.Staff should be able to communicate effectively, work with a team, and provide good customer service while working in a fast-paced environment.Physical Requirements/Working ConditionsAble to work indoors and outdoors during all seasons.Knowledge of safety protocols with lifting, use of chemicals and use of machineryAble to lift at least up to 50lbs, constant standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing laddersSome nights and weekend days may be required due to staffing shortages.
