What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Project Engineer I position at Gregory Poole Equipment Company?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Focus on Business Development, coordinate and execute major projects within the EPG Service Operations. This position will assist in coordination with subcontractors, including rigging / hauling, outside purchases, etc. for jobs that are sold through the PSSR's or Service Department that need assistance with project management. Ensure and maintain gross profit margins on service bids/projects through timely and accurate completion of project management activities ensuring all jobs are performed to project specifications and meet the requirement of NFPA70 and 110 codes from the GPPS perspective (for work we perform).
Provides individualized technical information/support to the GP EPG Service Associates, and site contractors via in person or through telephone or electronic communications. Provides update status on projects to Sr. Project Engineer and Product Support Manager to keep them fully informed on changes in the projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
A. Service Staff Support
- Provides technical information when requested by outside PSSR's, assist with review of projects at customer sites when needed.
- Due to the highly technical side of this position and the complex jobs that may be included, Safety is of the upmost importance in the field. All projects will be evaluated upfront for safe conditions and the work environment. A written Pre-Work Risk Assessment for safety will be required on these projects.
- Handles inquiries and questions regarding projects when requested by customer calls, dispatchers, Product Support Representatives, Service Ops Manager, Service Project Engineer and Product Support Manager.
B. Project Administration/Management
- Works with PSSR's to review and define a project and enter it into the service process.
- Reviews quote specifications and purchase accessories and miscellaneous components from Caterpillar or Non-Cat vendors as needed. Assist PSSR's in procuring electrical parts needed (if needed).
- Prepares detailed project plan for time frames to meet customers' needs and coordinates deliveries to customer sites as needed.
- Coordinate with the Sales department and Rental departments as needed for larger more complex projects to ensure proper set up and invoicing from those depts. to external customers. (Occasionally internal billings will occur).
- Provide Product Support Manager, Service Operations Manager, Service Dispatchers and/or PSSR's updates as needed on projects for status changes or any complications that arise in the jobs.
- Assists with coordinating and scheduling on start-up of new projects, repairs, modifications and field testing of a projects as needed.
- If needed assist in the preparation of submittals and manuals for larger complex project bids as required with the assistance of document technician or service administrator.
C. Cost Control
- Reviews all major project purchases, along with negotiating the lowest cost/best value buying for project requirements. Work with all vendors in an equitable and ethical manner.
- Advises representative of cost variances or specification shortfalls.
D. Documentation / Submittals/Service Manuals
- Solicits vendor product information as needed to complete requirements of the specification on the job.
- Prepares or assist PSSR's to assemble project service documentation, Caterpillar product support literature and outside vendor literature if needed for submittals on bids.
- Assist PSSR's on projects that require SOP/MOP Documentation. This would include safety operating procedures as needed.
- All documentation will be submitted in a timely, accurate manner including but not limited to specifications on jobs, drawings, costing sheets, purchase orders, contracts, etc.
E. Self-Improvement and Development
- Research and review all new product and sales literature to ensure current product knowledge.
- Remain current and informed about new project management tools, drawings, and other tools designed to enhance personal and departmental efficiency.
- Increase knowledge and credentials/certifications in specific service offerings to expand business opportunities.
F. Special Projects
- Completes special projects assigned by management in a factual and timely manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education:
Four-year degree with one-year work experience or associate degree with 4 years direct work experience in this field or similar field.
Work Experience:
Work experience in technical field related to electric power generation projects, project management, background in process mapping and efficiency, office management, or similar sales coordination with direct accountability required.
Physical:
Ability to travel periodically, with occasional overnight stays. Must be able to stand, stoop and climb for on-site inspections.
Other:
Possess valid driver's license with acceptable driving record that meets company policy and guidelines. Possess knowledge of or quickly learns Caterpillar / Non-Caterpillar engines and related equipment. Be familiar with on-site installations and equipment operations. Above average PC skills, exposure and operations are required for Microsoft Word, Project Management, Excel and Access.
Must be able to provide security information needed to gain access to various secured sites as required by the customers with periodical background checks.
Other License Needed within 3 years of position to advance to next level of job role:
It is the intent that this position will ultimately hold and maintain a N.C. Unlimited Electrical Licenses. When License is gained in this position, person will be paid for the license fee per agreed amount per year. Gregory Poole Service department will pay for needed training to maintain (in state license cost only) for NC Unlimited Electrical license. List of all training requirements will be provided to the Product Support Manager for review yearly. All training must have managements approval before attending.
