This is a traveling position - plan to be on the road most of the year. Our home office is near Pittsburgh, PA.

General Summary
The Project Superintendent will direct all field operations on the project to which he is assigned. It is the duty of the Superintendent to ensure that Owners’ time/cost/ quality/safety project goals are fully executed in the field. To those ends, the Superintendent guides the day-to-day progress of the work Depending on the size and type of project, the Superintendent may be in a working or non-working capacity It is his duty to assure the manpower and material requirements of the project are satisfied, and to schedule the work far enough in advance so that the schedule and budget parameters are maintained. The Superintendent is often the face of Gregori Construction to the owner and the public and must conduct himself in such a manner which is in accordance with Company policy and with the utmost professionalism.
Responsibilities
Safety – Ensure that Company safety policies are enforced
- Conduct weekly/daily safety meetings on the project and forward meeting minutes to the office
- Ensure site security
- Maintain good public and community relations
- Report accidents (within 1 hour) and near misses/incidents (within 1 day)
Supervise and instruct field staff
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the goals, project plans, specifications and contract requirements
- Understand the intent and content of the Owner contract
- Notify the PM if inconsistencies occur in plans and specifications
- Notify the PM of all required changes and ensure authorization is received before proceeding
Participate in the pre-project planning sessions
- Become familiar with the project and offer practical direction pertaining to the project schedule and execution
- Familiarize himself with the project estimate and the cost control system at the beginning of the project
- Aid the PM in the Development of the project schedule
Plan the work in advance, and regularly review the plan with the PM and the General Superintendent and advise of any anticipated delays caused by field problems, changed conditions, material shortages, or delivery problems
- Plan the work and prepare detailed 2 week look aheads
- Monitor the schedule and record actual progress of all activities daily
- Authorize required materials for which purchase orders have not been issued
- Review and follow material deliveries as scheduled, and expedite in conjunction with the PM
- Assist the PM during pre-construction conference (if job size or contract dictates)
- Familiarize all other contractors with the project schedule, construction methods, company procedures and policies, quality standards, and safety requirements
Reporting
- Properly document all labor, materials and equipment to the correct cost code for each assigned activity (Heavy Job)
- Report weekly equipment hours and maintenance requirements
- Ensure that material delivery receipts, packing slips, invoices, etc. are properly acknowledged, recorded and have appropriate cost codes applied
- Continually review and update progress, cost reports, schedules and requirements for completion
- Maintain a job diary (Heavy Job Software)
Subcontractor coordination
- Understand the intent and content of all subcontracts
- Ensure that subcontractors maintain adequate manpower, equipment and materials to timely execute the work
- Review all subcontractor requisitions with the Project manager and ensure that relevant backup is in order before payment
- Ensure that any back charges for extra work are appropriate
- Ensure adequate notice for any subcontractor extra work
- Notify the Gen Super and PM of any non-performing sub-contractor
Conduct all job meetings related to field operations
- When necessary, conduct separate weekly meetings to schedule and coordinate subcontractor activities
Ensure that Company safety and EEO programs are enforced and that records are in order pertaining to OSHA and EEO
- Conduct weekly/daily safety meetings on the project, and forward meeting minutes to home office
- Ensure site security
- Ensure observance of all safety requirements
- Maintain good public and community relations
Participate in a claims defense/collection checklist (if required)
*Qualifications are dependent upon position requirements. Gregori Construction Inc. will determine suitable qualifications for a successful candidate. All relevant training shall be documented and retained by Gregori Construction Inc. for the duration of employment.
Work Experience
Five (5) to ten (10) years project experience in construction and/or heavy civil environments.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge and familiarity with HCSS (Heavy Job) software is a plus.
- Knowledge of construction paving, underground, concrete and grading practices.
- Maintain ability to work in high production environment.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Excellent supervisory communication and organizational skills.
- Accuracy at all times.
Physical Demands
