Role Description
The Director of Development leads Greer Relief’s fundraising and resource development efforts to strengthen the organization’s mission, visibility, and long-term sustainability. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies related to annual giving, donor relations, sponsorships, campaigns, fundraising events, and development communications, with clear accountability for revenue performance, donor engagement, and stewardship outcomes.
As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Development works closely with the Executive Director, Finance Manager, Board members, and key staff to align fundraising priorities with organizational goals. This role also supervises the Outreach Administrator and provides leadership for donor engagement, development communications, and related marketing efforts that support Greer Relief’s strategic direction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Development Strategy & Fundraising
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual Resource Development Plan with measurable goals and performance metrics.
- Create and monitor development dashboards and key performance indicators, including revenue, donor retention, acquisition, reactivation, upgrades, sponsorships, and campaign outcomes.
- Lead fundraising efforts including annual giving, donor appeals, direct mail, online giving, recurring giving, year-end campaigns, and sponsorship initiatives.
- Build and manage relationships with donors, prospects, sponsors, foundations, and community partners.
- Manage donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition strategies.
- Oversee donor retention and re-engagement efforts, including LYBUNT and SYBUNT strategies.
- Support major gift development in partnership with the Executive Director and Board leadership.
- Partner with the Executive Director and Board to strengthen fundraising engagement, donor strategy, and overall resource development priorities.
Events & Sponsorship Development
- Provide strategic leadership for fundraising events to ensure they support donor engagement, visibility, and revenue goals.
- Oversee event fundraising strategy, sponsorship development, donor experience, and post-event stewardship.
- Work with staff, committees, and volunteers to support strong execution, accountability, and follow-up.
- Monitor event performance, including gross and net revenue, sponsor retention, and donor conversion opportunities.
Communications & Engagement
- Provide strategic leadership for development-related communications and marketing efforts in coordination with appropriate staff.
- Oversee donor-facing communications including appeals, acknowledgements, impact messaging, stewardship materials, and campaign messaging.
- Ensure fundraising communications are clear, compelling, and aligned with Greer Relief’s mission and strategic priorities.
Leadership & Reporting
- Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and contribute to organizational planning and strategy.
- Supervise and support the Outreach Administrator with clear accountability and professional development.
- Oversee use of the donor database/CRM for segmentation, donor tracking, reporting, and fundraising analysis.
- Provide regular fundraising reports and updates to the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Board.
- Develop, oversee, and monitor the Marketing and Development budget, ensuring expenditures are strategic, fiscally responsible, and aligned with fundraising goals, communications priorities, and organizational objectives.
- Work collaboratively with Finance while maintaining clear separation between fundraising and accounting functions.
General Responsibilities
- Represent Greer Relief professionally in the community and at public events.
- Attend staff, board, and committee meetings as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in donor and fundraising work.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Passion for Greer Relief’s mission and community impact.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work strategically.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships across multiple giving levels.
- Ability to lead projects, people, and priorities with sound judgment and initiative.
- Ability to analyze fundraising progress and use data to guide decisions.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and accountability.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, communications, public relations, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, donor development, or advancement.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with donor database/CRM systems required.
- Experience with major gifts, annual giving, sponsorships, and donor stewardship strongly preferred.
Schedule: Full-time, exempt position with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Technology Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Experience with donor database/CRM systems; CharityProud experience a plus
- Familiarity with email marketing, social media, Canva, and WordPress preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Ability to move throughout the office, attend meetings, participate in events, and engage with donors, partners, and community members in a variety of settings.
- Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment as needed to complete job responsibilities.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Transportation: Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required for work-related travel.
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
