Position: Special Education Teacher - Secondary - Transition Teacher

About the Role:
Greenwood School District 50 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Secondary Special Education Transition Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. This teacher will provide individualized instruction and support to help students with special needs reach their fullest potential in academic, social, and vocational development. Like other special education teaching positions, this role includes expectations for academic instruction and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) implementation, development, and progress monitoring. It also consists of coordinating and overseeing community job placements for high school students with disabilities as part of the South Carolina High School Employability Credential and District Occupational Certificate programs. This coordination includes seeking out community business partnerships, creating and adapting work schedules for students and their needs, maintaining logs of hours worked, and evaluating job performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Transition Teacher is responsible for supervising Job Coaches and students in community and school-based workplace settings.
Additional Responsibilities: The Transition Teacher is responsible for obtaining and maintaining certification to drive district buses and vehicles for student job placements in the community.
Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina Teacher's Certification in Special Education
- Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff in a supportive and professional manner
Work Schedule & Compensation:
- 190-day contract
- Salary determined by the district teacher salary scale, based on degree and years of experience
