Job Title:           Preschool Teacher                                    Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional

 

Primary Purpose:

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3 to 5 years. This role supports the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child in accordance with the Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers and Greenwood Independent School District.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.

CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to read and verbally communicate with children, staff, and parents

Ability to work with groups of children in a positive manner

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Effective organizational and communication skills

Ability to relate to children and adults with courtesy, respect, acceptance, compassion, and patience

 

Experience:

Experience in an infant/childcare setting

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Assist in planning, preparing materials, and implementing daily learning activities for children
  2. Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that support children's development across all learning domains.
  3. Maintain compliance with all Texas Child Care Licensing standards, including supervision, ratios, and safety practices.
  4. Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.
  5. Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  6. Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure smooth transitions, coverage, and program consistency

Student Management

  1. Supervise and ensure safety and security of children in the classroom, on outings, and to and from outside play areas.
  2. Foster a positive classroom culture that promotes inclusion, independence, and respectful behavior.
  3. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  4. Observe and assess children’s development and maintain accurate documentation for progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.

Safety

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.
  3. Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications.

Other

  1. Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required training hours per licensing guidelines.
  2. Communicate regularly with families regarding their child’s growth and daily experiences.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom and nursery equipment such as toys, playgrounds, multiple-rider strollers, etc. Personal computer and printer.

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Motion: Moderate walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, and handing or moving materials

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.
