About Us Greenwood General Insurance Agency is a specialty wholesale brokerage and managing general agency expanding into Utah with a new Salt Lake City office. We operate contract-bind and brokerage facilities with strong carrier relationships across the commercial P&C market. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build out a new operation.
Position Overview We're seeking an experienced Production Underwriter who can operate independently and own the full cycle — underwriting commercial P&C (E&S/specialty) risks while building and managing distribution relationships. This role suits someone who thinks like an underwriter and sells like a producer, and who's comfortable working autonomously in a new office.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and bind commercial P&C risks within delegated authority, primarily E&S/specialty lines
- Develop and manage agency/broker distribution relationships to drive submission flow
- Evaluate, price, and structure risks consistent with carrier guidelines and profitability targets
- Negotiate terms and build retail/wholesale producer relationships
- Manage the book end to end: new business, renewals, and retention
- Maintain underwriting discipline, file documentation, and regulatory compliance
- Operate independently while coordinating with the broader Greenwood team
Qualifications
- Commercial P&C underwriting experience required, with E&S/specialty exposure strongly preferred
- Distribution/production experience — a track record of building and growing producer relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage a book with minimal oversight
- Strong risk assessment, pricing, and negotiation skills
- Active P&C license or minimum of 4 years of underwriting trade experience
- Familiarity with delegated/binding authority structures a plus
- Excellent judgment, communication, and relationship-building skills
