Under the supervision of the Landfill Supervisor, this position is responsible for inspecting incoming loads of solid waste to identify and report unacceptable items, and for directing traffic to appropriate disposal areas. The role emphasizes safety, communication, and adherence to procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect incoming waste loads for prohibited or unacceptable items.
- Report and document any non-compliant materials found.
- Instruct drivers on safe unloading procedures and designated dumping areas.
- Use tools and equipment with care and attention to safety.
- Enforce safety policies and landfill operational procedures.
- Interact professionally with co-workers, supervisors, and haulers.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Data Responsibility: Compares/inspects data, people, or items against a standard.
- People Interaction: Engages with customers and staff; provides information or direction.
- Asset Responsibility: Minimal; low-value items or supplies only.
- Math Skills: Basic arithmetic (addition and subtraction).

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- No prior experience is required.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid S.C. Driver's License
