What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Transportation Van Driver - Alexander position at Greenway Public Transportation?
Essential Functions:
· Safely operates a vehicle for the purpose of transporting passengers to and from locations.
· Assists passengers with physical disabilities including those in wheelchairs. Assists passengers with getting in and out of the vehicle. Assists passengers in and out of passenger seats. Assists passengers up and down steps or aisles.
· Properly secures wheelchair passengers.
· Folds, lifts, stores/etc. walkers and other assistive passenger devices.
· Maintains the vehicle in good working order by regularly checking operating parts and systems such as fluid levels, tire pressure and belts.
· Logs and reports any vehicle maintenance issues.
· Washes and cleans the inside and exterior of vehicle as needed and as directed.
· Sells tickets, reconciles fares and completes daily fare and manifest paperwork.
· Performs related functions as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Ability and skill to operate passenger vehicle as assigned
· Ability to comprehend and follow safety procedures
· Ability to push and safely secure a wheelchair
· Ability and skill to operate various types of equipment to include radios, mobile phones and other dispatch equipment
· Ability to work positively with the public and passengers
· Knowledge of streets and road system in and out of assigned service area
· Ability to perform minor checks and maintenance on the vehicle
· Ability to read, speak and write English
· Ability to perform basic math
· Ability to follow directions both written and oral
· Ability to work flexible hours to include over-time
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
· Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
· Must have the physical strength to assist passengers with wheelchairs and other ADA passengers when loading and unloading the vehicle.
· Must possess the visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle, keep records and reports and read maps and instructions. Must have vision in eyes, normal depth perception, and normal peripheral vision and be free of any disease or condition that could impair vision. Must have 20/40 vision in each eye with or without corrections, and 140 degrees or better horizontal vision. Must be able to distinguish between green, red and yellow.
· Must have adequate hearing to assure safe response to vehicle horns, emergency vehicle sirens, and train signals.
Minimum Qualifications:
· A valid North Carolina CDL Class C with passenger endorsement (for employees prior to August 1, 2013); CDL Class A, or B with air brakes and passenger endorsement preferred
· Possession of a valid DOT medical card
· Minimum 2 years driving experience
Other Requirements:
· Drug and alcohol testing shall be conducted in accordance with Local, State and/or Federal regulations.
SSPP Requirements:
· In order to be considered for employment all potential employees must submit to a background screening for the Bureau of Motor Vehicle (DMV) provided by WPRTA. The report must be issued within the past ten (10) days of the interview process. In no case will an individual be given a road test, placed in training or allowed to operate an agency vehicle without a DMV check that is in compliance with the SSPP policy and has been approved by the Director of Para Transit Operations.
- Good driving record with no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Driving Under The Influence (DUI) or similar charges within the past twenty (20) years. No reckless driving, railroad crossing violations or ‘leaving the scene of an accident’ offenses within the past ten (10) years.
- No more than a total of two moving violations or accidents within the last three years.
- No suspended or revoked licenses within the past ten (10) years for moving violations or violations of criminal laws
- Any combination of violations, unfavorable road observations or accidents that indicate a pattern of unsafe vehicle operation behavior, whether on or off the job.
- Minimum of two (2) years driving experience.
- An original criminal record check shall be obtained by WPRTA as part of the application process. Unacceptable convictions include crimes of violence, drug usage or sales, physical abuse or theft. A pattern of unlawful behavior shall also disqualify an applicant.
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
