Job Description: Transportation Dispatcher
AM Hours will be 4:30 am - 1:30 pm with hour for lunch PM Hours will be 1O am - 7 pm with hour for lunch
Reports to: Bus Center Manager
Salary Group: Hourly, 200 Days, Bus Driver Pay Schedule
Responsibilities:
Arrange and organize timely dispatch functions regarding school bus driver issues such as accidents, road closures, road blocks, etc. Maintain concise and complete records of bus driver route information to recommend coverage options to the Manager and Supervisors promptly to assist in ensuring timely arrival and departure of students for school. Coordinate and arrange with the SC SOE Transportation Maintenance Shops and the GCS Bus Maintenance Shop the transfer of buses for maintenance to and from the bus lots.
To assist the drivers with any concerns or issues the drivers have while on the road and before or after bus routes, recommending resolutions to the bus center managers and bus supervisors.
Ensure drivers are made aware of any issues or concerns such as accidents, weather, road closures, road blocks, bridge outages, etc., and help facilitate bus drivers avoiding delays for their routes.
Dispatch and coordinate mechanical issues with buses, after discussing with the supervisor, implement the decision; call the maintenance shop, send another bus and driver, contact the Transportation Call Center for school messenger late bus notifications and contact school administrator with late bus information.
Maintain a daily log of route coverage, bus driver out information, bus shortage, and recommends possible solution to bus supervisors and then communicates solution to bus drivers to ensure routes are covered to the extent possible on time and efficiently.
Distributes incoming correspondence from schools, call center, and others to the appropriate staff.
Coordinate with state shop to coordinate the transfer of buses for regular maintenance to and from the bus shop and back to the lots. Coordinate end of the school year transfer of state buses to state lots.
Coordinate with the district bus shop to transfer activity buses between the district shop and schools and bus lots.
Other duties as assigned by Bus Center Manager.
