Class Title: Counselor II -Women’s Residential Classification: Exempt
Nature of Work
Duties include administrative and clinical activities necessary in the provision of individual, group counseling and other family services for persons of substance use disorders. Work involves planning, organizing, and conducting rehabilitative counseling services. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Serenity Place Clinical Coordinator. No supervisory responsibilities. May require extended after hours and weekend work.
JOB DUTIES
- Conducts screenings, intakes, and assessments on new admissions and recommends appropriate level of care based on ASAM criteria.
- Participates in treatment staffing to receive and provide feedback on client admissions, discharges and continued stay needs.
- Participates in scheduled agency clinical supervision.
- Assists client in creating Individualized Plan of Care.
- Plans and conducts individual or group sessions as ordered on the Individualized Treatment Plan.
- Makes referrals to external agencies or internal programs to initiate client into treatment.
- Provides crisis intervention as needed.
- Maintains up-to-date clinical service record documentation related to admission, assessment, crisis intervention, group activity, case management, continued stay needs and transition/discharge as required by agency and regulatory guidelines.
- Completes all discharge documentation within 3 days of date of discharge.
- Trains and monitors the performance of assigned interns
- Attends approved trainings related to substance use as required by the agency, licensure, certification, and/or assigned by unit manager.
- Completes all assigned on-line trainings in a timely manner.
- Maintains effective working relationships with external agencies through regular case management and other community liaison activities.
- Remains current with monthly review of agency Policy & Procedure as provided by unit manager.
- Responds to agency electronic communication as needed in a timely manner.
- Performs other clinical/administrative duties as required or assigned.
- Attends unit/agency staff meetings as scheduled.
- Maintains current license and/or certification as outlined by licensure/certification agency.

- Actively supports and implements Motivational Interviewing as the program’s core evidence based practice.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of counseling principles and techniques applicable to substance use and mental health conditions
Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of substance use problems and the disease of addiction
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, staff and other agencies
Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral reports
Proficient with computer skills to include WORD, Outlook, and any identified agency software pertinent to assigned duties
Exhibit skills related to basic listening and effective communication
Must have a valid SC Driver’s License and be able to provide proof of insurance
Required Training and Experience
Master’s degree in human service area from accredited institution with successful completion of ADC process within 3 years of hire.
