Overview
We are seeking an experienced Superintendant/Construction Quality Control System Manager to support the Replace Boiler Plant Project at the Oscar G. Johnson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Facility in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
This is a full-time, on-site federal construction position. Relocation assistance is available, and qualified candidates from throughout the United States are encouraged to apply.
The CQC System Manager will oversee the Project’s quality control program and ensure that all work complies with contract documents, project specifications, approved submittals, federal requirements, applicable codes, and established quality control procedures. The position requires close coordination with project management, subcontractors, field personnel, designers, and Government representatives.
The candidate is required to be a graduate engineer, graduate architect, or graduate of a construction management program, with a minimum of five years of construction experience on projects similar in size, scope, and complexity to this Contract.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and implement the Project-specific Construction Quality Control Plan.
- Serve as the primary quality control representative for the Project.
- Conduct and document preparatory, initial, and follow-up phases of control.
- Review drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, and contract requirements before work begins.
- Verify that materials, equipment, installations, and workmanship comply with contract requirements.
- Coordinate inspections and testing with subcontractors, testing agencies, project management, and Government representatives.
- Prepare and maintain daily quality control reports and supporting documentation.
- Track deficiencies, corrective actions, punch-list items, and completion status.
- Review subcontractor quality control procedures, submittals, certifications, and testing documentation.
- Attend progress meetings, coordination meetings, and quality control meetings.
- Coordinate with the Superintendent and Site Safety and Health Officer regarding field activities and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, deficiencies, photographs, and corrective actions.
- Stop or reject nonconforming work when necessary and ensure deficiencies are corrected before work proceeds.
- Support project closeout, commissioning, inspections, testing, training, and turnover documentation.
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate engineer, graduate architect, or graduate of a construction management program.
- Minimum of five years of construction experience on projects similar in size, scope, and complexity to this Contract.
- Prior experience managing quality control on federal construction projects.
- Knowledge of federal construction quality control requirements and the three-phase control process.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and contract documents.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors, project managers, field personnel, designers, and Government representatives.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to identify deficiencies, determine corrective actions, and follow issues through resolution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management or documentation software.
- Ability to work full-time onsite in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
- Current or prior Construction Quality Management for Contractors certification is preferred.
- Experience with Department of Veterans Affairs, USACE, NAVFAC, or other federal construction projects is preferred.
Pay: From $100,000.00 per year
