FLSA JOB CLASSIFICATION:
Non-Exempt, 10-Month Position
JOB PURPOSE:
The Security Officer will provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students and staff while on school grounds, including monitoring personnel and/or visitors, communicating information for response to emergency situations, and providing high-visibility security patrol.
This is a full-time, 10-month, on-campus position, five days per week, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., and requires occasional weekend work. Additional summer hours may be available.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works primarily on high-visibility foot patrol, monitors security cameras, greets visitor, and ensures physical campus security, safety, and wellbeing
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of Greensboro Day School security practices and protocols
Carries GDS-issued security equipment
Responds to a variety of situations (accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns
Responds to inquiries from students and parents regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information, direction, and/or referral for addressing inquiry
Assists students, school personnel, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing direction and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as security presence when on-campus by patrolling school facilities (grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) when needed for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring criminal activities
Recommends security improvements
Responds and assists during medical emergencies
Is available to assist the game day administrator during athletic events
Serves as a liaison with law enforcement or emergency services during emergency situations
Attends annual training as designated by the Director of Security
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Security

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Security Officer works primarily outdoors and across the school campus in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and inclement weather. Duties are performed during regular school hours as well as evenings and weekends for special events, athletic games, and emergencies. Work may involve exposure to noise, crowds, and other environmental factors typical of a busy school setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some duties of this job take place in an office setting. This position is frequently required to operate a computer and file and retrieve written documents. The position requires the ability to remain on foot for extended periods while conducting campus patrols and performing frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven surfaces. The role also involves occasionally lifting, carrying, or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, such as cones, or emergency equipment. The Security Officer must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations, including running short distances or assisting individuals in distress. Manual dexterity is essential for operating radios, phones, and security equipment, along with sufficient visual and auditory acuity to monitor security cameras, identify safety concerns, and respond to alarms or emergency signals.
