JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily financial operations of the College through general ledger accounting, accounts receivable administration, month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. This position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. The Staff Accountant will also assist with special projects, process improvements, and other accounting and finance initiatives as assigned by the CFO.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Reconcile accounts receivable subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
- Assist departments with billing-related questions and issues.
- Develop and maintain complex Excel workbooks, reports, and financial models.
- Analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and potential issues.
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports for management and departmental stakeholders.
- Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with GAAP and institutional policies.
- Assist with annual audits and preparation of audit schedules.
- Support compliance reporting and documentation requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and process automation initiatives.
- Assist with documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Provide support for special projects and strategic initiatives.
- Perform various ad hoc accounting, financial, and administrative tasks as assigned by the CFO.
- Cross-train with other accounting staff to ensure continuity of operations.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in accounting or related
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- SUMIFS and other advanced formulas
- Data analysis and reporting
- Large dataset management
Preferred
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or fund accounting environments.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica, Jenzabar, Banner, Colleague, or similar platforms.
- Experience with report writing, Power Query, Power BI, or other business intelligence tools.
