Job Summary:
The Staff Development Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for nursing staff in a nursing home. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that the team maintains compliance with regulations, develops their professional skills, and provides the highest standard of care to residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Training and Education
Develop, schedule, and deliver in-service training programs, orientations, and competency assessments for new and existing nursing staff.
Create and implement training materials to ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations.
Conduct hands-on clinical skills training, including infection control, medication administration, and emergency protocols.
Compliance and Regulation
Maintain staff education records and ensure staff certifications (e.g., CPR, first aid) are up to date.
Keep abreast of changing healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices and update training programs accordingly.
Ensure staff compliance with policies related to resident care, safety, and quality assurance.
Mentorship and Leadership
Act as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, providing guidance and support for professional growth.
Assist in identifying staff development needs through observation, assessments, and feedback.
Participate in onboarding and orientation for new hires to promote a supportive and positive work environment.
Quality Improvement
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and their impact on clinical outcomes.
Participate in audits, inspections, and performance reviews to identify areas needing improvement.
Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and leadership team to address performance gaps or deficiencies.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records of training schedules, attendance, and completion.
Prepare reports on training progress, compliance status, and development initiatives.
Collaborate with external vendors or consultants for specialized training sessions.
Qualifications:
Education and Licensure:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or compact state.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or geriatric settings.
Prior experience in staff education, training, or leadership roles is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong teaching, coaching, and public speaking skills.
Knowledge of adult learning principles and effective teaching methods.
Proficiency in using technology for training purposes (e.g., LMS, Microsoft Office).
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment:
Nursing home setting with frequent interaction with residents, staff, and visitors.
Requires walking, standing, and occasional lifting to demonstrate nursing procedures.
