Job Description:
Greenlake is looking for an experienced financial reporting professional to lead the month-end close and financial reporting function across our operating entities. Reporting to the Controller, you will prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, serve as the primary liaison with our external auditors, and drive the team to meet deadlines throughout close cycles. This role offers significant ownership and direct exposure to the CFO and senior leadership. Our in-house team is intentionally small and partners with outside consultants on recurring accounting processes, so the right candidate will be equally effective in executing the work and reviewing the work of others. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting knowledge, strong analytical skills, a high standard for quality, and communication skills to work effectively across the organization.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Manage the month-end close across multiple entities, including the close calendar, checklist, and team accountability.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements with supporting schedules and variance analysis.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany activity across entities, ensuring completeness, and accuracy.
• Establish and maintain standards for quality and documentation across the financial reporting function.
• Lead the external audit process, including preparation of PBC schedules, response to auditor requests, walkthroughs of workpapers, and management of the engagement to a clean and timely opinion.
• Interface with Greenlake staff across finance, land, subsurface, and operations to maintain visibility into the business.
Qualifications, Technical Skills, & Personal Competencies:
• CPA required.
• 5 years of financial reporting experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Demonstrated experience preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements for multiple entities.
• Full-cycle experience working directly with external auditors as the primary point of contact.
• Experience managing or reviewing the work of others.
• High proficiency in Excel and ERP/accounting systems; experience with OGSYS a plus.
• Strong technical accounting foundation with the ability to research GAAP standards and apply them with sound judgment.
• Big 4 audit background and experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated work ethic and sound problem-solving skills that thrive in a start-up organization.
• Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Additional Details:
The ideal candidate takes ownership of their work from start to finish, verifies their output, and contributes meaningfully to the broader team. They work fluently at both the detail level and the executive level, moving between technical accounting work and clear communication with leadership and stakeholders.
We also recognize the growing role of AI in accounting and finance, and we are committed to adopting it thoughtfully. We are looking for candidates who are curious about integrating AI into close, reporting, and analysis workflows where it adds genuine value, while maintaining the professional skepticism to review and validate output.
Primary location of position is Austin, TX. However, may consider candidates residing in Midland, TX, and other areas, contingent on level of experience and qualifications.
This role offers real ownership and visibility, and we expect the right person to grow with the company.
