Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant who is passionate about enriching the lives of older adults in a long-term care and rehabilitation environment. The Activities Assistant works closely with the Activities Director to support individualized programming that meets each resident’s unique abilities, interests, and social needs. From assisting with new resident introductions and participation tracking to providing one-on-one engagement and supporting group activities, this role helps ensure residents remain active and connected. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Activities Director to assess new residents within 96 hours of admission, identifying abilities, interests, and socialization needs, and orienting them to available programs.
- Assist with ongoing resident activity documentation, including quarterly re-evaluations and progress notes as assigned.
- Maintain accurate daily records of resident participation and engagement in activities programs.
- Provide one-on-one engagement for residents requiring individualized social, cognitive, or sensory stimulation.
- Support the planning, preparation, and coordination of group and individual activities to promote resident well-being and quality of life.
- Assist in maintaining activity supplies, equipment, inventory, and the organization and appearance of activity spaces.
- Help supervise and coordinate volunteers supporting activities programs.
- Support safe resident transport and outings, including assisting with transfers and vehicle use when assigned.
- Maintain bulletin boards and contribute to a welcoming, engaging environment throughout activity areas and units.
- Follow all facility policies, including safety procedures, infection control, dress code, and time and attendance requirements.
- Participate in in-service education and training programs as required.
- Support a culture of compassion, respect, integrity, and commitment while ensuring resident safety, security, and well-being at all times.
Key Requirements Other:
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members visitors, government agencies/staff, and the general public.
- Must have patience, tact a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle challenging residents/associates.
- Must be able to communicate with the staff, and other department supervisors.
- Maintains a rapport with the residents and their families.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Must attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this facility.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year of experience in a SNF or long-term care setting preferred
- Experience in activities, recreation, or resident engagement in a healthcare setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately with residents, families, and staff
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Must possess excellent communication skills.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with various personalities and exhibit maturity and professionalism.
