Mechanical Design Engineer

Greenerd designs and builds custom hydraulic presses and automated manufacturing systems ranging from 5 to 3,000 tons. Our engineers work on complex, one-of-a-kind equipment and are involved throughout the project—from concept and design through manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and installation. Founded in 1883, Greenerd has been designing and building presses in the United States for more than 140 years.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys solving challenging mechanical problems and wants to see the equipment they design actually built and put into operation.

Responsibilities

• Design custom hydraulic presses and industrial machinery from concept through commissioning.
• Design and integrate automation and material-handling systems.
• Solve mechanical and system-level engineering problems on complex custom equipment.
• Work directly with manufacturing, assembly and controls teams as your designs are built and tested.
• Take technical ownership of projects, from participating in quotation and concept development through design, build, commissioning and final installation.
• Develop new products and continuously improve existing products and machine designs.

This is not a desk-only design position. You will have the opportunity to follow your designs onto the manufacturing and assembly floor, participate in testing and troubleshooting, and see completed machines put into service.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 years of mechanical design/engineering experience, preferably involving custom machinery, industrial equipment, automation, hydraulics, machine design or other complex mechanical systems.
• Strong 3D CAD skills, with experience in Autodesk Inventor or comparable software; experience with ANSYS or comparable engineering analysis/FEA tools.
• Familiarity with various testing equipment.
