Primary Function
The employee, under close supervision, performs routine duties to include the preparation and serving of food and the cleaning of kitchen equipment and facility.
Responsibilities:
- Follows procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment, and personal habits to assure that sanitation standards are met as required by the School Nutrition Services Office and Virginia Department of Health.
- Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing and serving food as required by the School Nutrition Services Office and Virginia Department of Health.
- Maintains required forms and records as assigned by the manager.
- Accepts payment for food, using computerized register and payment system or other means as directed by cafeteria manager.
- Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
- Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times, assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model.
- Provides a good role model in appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior for the students served.
- Attends job related training classes and workshops, including mandatory classes required under federal regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
- Takes direction from superiors, communicates efficiently and effectively, and exhibits a team player attitude.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Ability to read and write in English and follow written and oral instructions. Follows dress code as outlined in the School Nutrition Services Handbook. Desire to put forth the best effort in all assigned duties. Ability to follow safety precautions to avoid injuries of minor cuts, falls, bruises, burns and scalds. Ability to complete written forms and records. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.

Terms of Assignment
Hours - 7 hours per day, 180 days per school year

Compensation: Compensation is based on prior Food Service Experience
Supervision Received: School Nutrition Manager/School Nutrition Director
