JOB SUMMARY
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across the Girard campus and facilities. This position supports the daily operations of the organization by ensuring that classrooms, offices, common areas, and grounds are properly cleaned, sanitized, and maintained.
The Custodian performs routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces, as well as restocking supplies and removing trash. This role may also include basic maintenance tasks, monitoring building conditions, and reporting repair needs or safety concerns.
Custodians play a key role in creating a welcoming and professional environment for staff, students, and visitors. The position requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, often with flexible hours that may include evenings or early mornings.
This role contributes directly to the health, safety, and overall appearance of the Girard campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High school diploma or certificate of equivalency.
Must be dependable, flexible, and team-oriented.
Must be able to work independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:
Keep the building and premises neat and clean at all times.
Wipe and disinfect all tables used in classrooms and meeting rooms.
Clean the main area floors daily and the office areas once a week. Empty trash cans, replace bags, and deposit trash in the dumpster.
Pick up all recyclables as needed and keep the recycling area neat and organized.
Clean drinking fountains daily.
Clean all bathrooms daily, including mopping floors, cleaning, and disinfecting all fixtures, restocking supplies, cleaning mirrors, etc.
Clean exterior doors and front window glass as needed.
Sweep and mop kitchen floors daily.
Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
Secure buildings at the end of the day.
General Responsibilities:
Spot-clean carpet as needed.
Report any light bulbs that have gone out.
Annually, wipe down the baseboards.
Must support the Service Center's mission, goals, and objectives.
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
Must maintain strict confidentiality.
Must demonstrate proficiency in the ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team,
Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices,
Must demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with Service Center employees and constituents.
Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by the Supervisor.
Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center.
Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires prolonged standing.
Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing.
Occasional ladder climbing.
Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
