Position Summary
The Driver / Activity Assistant is responsible for safely transporting residents to scheduled appointments, outings, and facility activities while providing a positive and supportive resident experience. This position also assists the Activities Department in coordinating and implementing recreational and social programs that enhance the quality of life for residents. The Driver / Activity Assistant ensures transportation safety, maintains transportation records, and supports activity programming that promotes engagement, independence, and resident satisfaction.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResident Transportation
- Safely transport residents to medical appointments, community outings, and scheduled activities.
- Assist residents with entering and exiting vehicles, including those requiring mobility assistance.
- Ensure resident safety during transportation by following all vehicle safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and documentation.
- Coordinate transportation schedules with staff and residents.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Conduct routine vehicle safety inspections before and after trips.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure the vehicle remains in safe operating condition.
- Report maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure vehicles are fueled and ready for scheduled transportation needs.
Activity Program Support
- Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing resident activities and events.
- Support activity programs designed to enhance residents’ physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- Encourage resident participation in activities and outings.
- Assist with set-up, supervision, and clean-up of activity programs.
Resident Engagement
- Provide a positive, respectful, and customer-focused experience for residents.
- Build relationships with residents while promoting a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Assist residents with participation in activities as needed.
Department Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the Activities Department, nursing staff, and leadership team.
- Assist with special events, community outings, and holiday programs.
- Support additional departmental needs as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- Experience working in senior living, assisted living, or long-term care preferred.
- Experience providing transportation services or activity support preferred.
Licensure
- Current, valid Oklahoma Driver’s License required.
- Clean driving record required.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with elderly residents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Standing and walking frequently throughout the shift
- Assisting residents with mobility when entering or exiting vehicles
- Lifting or assisting with mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers)
- Ability to operate a vehicle safely for extended periods
Work Environment
This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments and includes driving responsibilities for resident transportation. The role involves regular interaction with residents, staff, and visitors in a healthcare or senior living setting.
