Position Summary:
The Data Engineer role requires a candidate with 10 years of expertise in database development, engineering, modernization, and data virtualization. The role includes leading complex data migration efforts, building scalable data pipelines, engaging directly with business users, and supporting enterprise O&M operations. This role requires strong technical architecture skills, modern data engineering practices, and the ability to deliver robust, secure, and high‑performance data solutions across hybrid and cloud environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Architect and develop scalable data models, curated datasets, and analytics-ready structures for reporting, BI, machine learning, and operational workloads.
· Implement modern data architectures including data lakes, data warehouses, and data virtualization layers.
· Lead large-scale data migration projects involving legacy-to-modern platforms, cloud migrations, cross-database transfers, and multi-environment synchronization.
· Develop migration plans, ETL pipelines, scripts, and automated workflows ensuring accuracy, integrity, and minimal downtime.
· Conduct pre‑migration assessments, risk analysis, and post‑migration validation.
· Oversee O&M activities for enterprise data ecosystems, including pipeline reliability, job orchestration, monitoring, and optimization.
· Establish automated workflows for data refresh cycles, error handling, lineage tracking, and performance tuning.
· All other duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a technical field
· 15 years in computer science and database development, modernization, and data virtualization
· 8 years in project planning, business analysis and user engagement.
· Experience performing data migrations from legacy data stores on-premise to AWS GovCloud
· Experience with cloud-based architecture, preferably AWS data services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, Glue, DMS) and AWS Data Analytics.
· Strong scripting capabilities (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and migration tasks.
· Excellent communication and management skills.
Certifications Preferred:
· AWS Data Analytics
· IBM Data Architect
· CompTIA DataSys certifications
Security Clearance Requirements:
· Must be a U.S. Citizen
· Must have an active DoD Secret clearance.
Work Location:
3 days in Fairfax, VA, 2 days in Washington, D.C.
Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
