GENERAL SUMMARY
The Electrical Senior Project Engineer is a licensed professional responsible for leading and overseeing the design and engineering of electrical systems for commercial, retail, and institutional building projects. Reporting to the Managing Director or Director, the Senior Project Engineer serves as a technical lead and subject matter expert, ensuring that all work meets applicable codes, design standards, and client expectations. This role requires expert-level technical capabilities, strategic project insight, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and consultants across multiple project phases.
The Senior Project Engineer routinely serves as Engineer of Record (EOR) on designated projects and leads quality control initiatives, complex technical problem-solving, and project coordination efforts. As a senior technical leader, this position contributes to the development of design standards and provides oversight and high-level mentorship and training to design staff and project engineers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position includes supervisory responsibilities.

Directly supervises project engineers and designers assigned to projects.

Delegates and oversees design work performed by designers and junior staff.

Reviews drawing packages and technical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and code compliance.

Provides coaching and technical guidance to less experienced team members.

Participates in performance feedback, skill development, and training planning for engineering team members.

Technical Engineering & Design

Design and engineer electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems (e.g., data, telephone, audiovisual) for a variety of building types.

Perform and review engineering calculations, including short circuits, photometric, load, voltage drop, and equipment sizing.

Develop and oversee creation of one-line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting layouts, and fire alarm layouts.

Prepare complete project documentation including drawings, specifications, and technical reports.

Establish design criteria and standards based on code requirements, client specifications, and firm best practices.
-
Provide technical leadership in evaluating and implementing new design tools, sustainable technologies, and advanced system approaches.
Engineering Judgment & Oversight

Serve as Engineer of Record for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to state licensure and regulatory requirements.

Supervise the production of construction documents by junior designers and perform drawing reviews.

Approve complex design solutions and resolve escalated technical issues that impact quality, cost, or schedule.

Lead peer reviews and quality assurance initiatives for large-scale or high-visibility projects.
Project Execution & Coordination

Independently manage the electrical engineering scope of multiple projects simultaneously, from concept through closeout.

Assist Project Managers in setting scopes, schedules, and budgets for electrical engineering tasks.

Attend and actively participate in project meetings, including those with clients, architects, contractors, and code officials.

Translate engineering tasks into estimated labor hours and resource requirements.
-
Manage time efficiently across multiple concurrent projects and deliverables.
-
Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and project interviews as a technical expert.
Construction Support & Field Work
-
Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and record changes during the construction administration phase.

Conduct onsite inspections as needed to verify installation aligns with design documents.
-
Maintain documentation of field changes and coordinate revisions to as built drawings.
- Coordinate technical efforts and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to produce cohesive, code compliant designs.

Perform due diligence on existing buildings, feasibility studies, and sustainability or energy efficiency analyses.

Evaluate vendor supplied equipment for compatibility and conformance to design criteria.

Lead post-occupancy evaluations and lessons-learned reviews to inform future design improvements.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Proficiency in electrical engineering software including SKM, AGi32, Visual, and Easy Power (preferred).

Working knowledge of ComCheck, EnergyPro, or other energy code compliance tools.

Advanced understanding of building codes (NEC, NFPA) and construction processes.

Ability to interpret and coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing documents.

Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver engineering tasks on time and within budget.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical concepts.

Organized, detail oriented, and able to work independently or in a team environment.

Demonstrated leadership in mentoring, cross-discipline coordination, and client relationship management.

Ability to guide project strategy and provide technical direction under minimal supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program (preferred).

Minimum 12–15 years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience in the building design industry.

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing is required.
-
Multi state licensure is a plus; must be willing and eligible to obtain additional licensure as needed.

Experience in managing technical workflows and mentoring junior staff.

Experience working with cross disciplinary project teams and client representatives.

Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept through construction with minimal oversight.

PAY TRANSPARENCY
Where required by applicable law, the pay range for this position is provided in the job posting. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, education, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and or benefits in accordance with applicable plans and policies.
PAYROLL
Employees paid on a bi-weekly basis, consisting of 26 pay periods annually, and is issued in arrears. Direct deposit is available.
