GENERAL SUMMARY
The MEP Project Manager (Mechanical Engineering) is responsible the aesthetic, conceptual and planning solutions, design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical engineering–focused MEP projects from proposal development through construction closeout. Reporting to the Managing Director or Director, this role provides technical leadership and project management oversight for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, collaborate across disciplines, and ensure projects meet technical, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities. However, the MEP Project Manager provides technical guidance, coordination, and informal mentoring to project team members and consultants as assigned.

Project Management & Delivery

Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical engineering–focused MEP projects from proposal development through design, construction administration, and project closeout.

Develop project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.

Track project progress, budgets, invoices, and financial performance to support on-time and within-budget delivery.

Maintain overall project schedules and develop task-level two- to three-week lookahead schedules.

Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies related to scope, schedule, budget, and technical execution.

Prepare and review monthly project status reports, change orders, and project documentation.
Mechanical Engineering Design & Technical Oversight

Lead and oversee mechanical engineering design efforts, including HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems.

Ensure design completeness, accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

Review and approve mechanical plans, specifications, calculations, studies, and engineer’s estimates.

Coordinate mechanical design with electrical, structural, architectural, civil/site, and fire protection disciplines.

Interpret contract documents and resolve technical issues related to mechanical systems, materials, workmanship, and performance.
Coordination & Client Support

Communicate and coordinate project requirements with internal teams, consultants, and contractors.

Participate in and lead project meetings, presenting mechanical engineering scope, progress, and technical solutions.

Serve as a key point of contact for clients on mechanical engineering matters.

Resolve client, consultant, and contractor issues in collaboration with project leadership.
Business Development & Proposals

Support marketing and business development efforts by building and maintaining client relationships.

Assist in identifying new project opportunities and supporting pursuit strategies.

Develop proposals, including scopes of work, fee estimates, schedules, bid documents, studies, and technical narratives.

Participate in client presentations and interviews as assigned.
Documentation & Quality Assurance

Prepare and coordinate complete project documentation, including plans, specifications, reports, and engineer’s estimates.

Ensure project engineering activities comply with firm standards, contract requirements, and quality assurance/quality control procedures.

Coordinate technical and administrative activities with other internal departments and project disciplines.
Collaboration & Professional Development
-
Work collaboratively across disciplines to support integrated project delivery.

Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior staff and team members.

Actively support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the Mechanical/MEP team.

Review project budgets and performance regularly with the Senior Project Manager, Managing Director, or Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, zoning regulations, permitting, and approval processes.

Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems and their integration with electrical, structural, architectural, and site components.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple moderate to large projects simultaneously.

Strong organizational, leadership, and coordination skills.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Highly detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing complex project information.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Familiarity with mechanical engineering design and analysis software.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical Engineering acceptable with strong mechanical/MEP experience).

Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering and project management experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
-
Experience delivering mechanical/MEP projects through construction strongly preferred.

PAY TRANSPARENCY
Where required by applicable law, the pay range for this position is provided in the job posting. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, education, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and or benefits in accordance with applicable plans and policies.
PAYROLL
Employees paid on a bi-weekly basis, consisting of 26 pay periods annually, and is issued in arrears. Direct deposit is available.
