Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) , is a not-for-profit housing cooperative of 1,600 homes in the historic "Old Greenbelt" neighborhood of Greenbelt, Maryland. As one of the oldest and largest housing cooperatives in the United States GHI is committed to maintaining high-quality homes and providing exceptional service to our members.
We are currently seeking an Experienced Residential Carpenter to join our skilled Maintenance team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of residential carpentry experience is required.
- Roofing experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install repair and finish drywall, patch and repair plaster as needed.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on residential homes and community buildings in accordance with scheduled maintenance and capital improvement programs.
- Interpret blueprints schematics, drawings and verbal instructions to complete assigned projects accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare material take-offs and estimate labor requirements for assigned work
- Install and repair interior and exterior carpentry components including: doors, locks and garage doors, windows, frames and glazing, cabinets, ceilings, flooring and base molding and exterior siding and trim.
- Repair and maintain various roofing systems including asphalt shingles, slate, built-up roofing, EPDM, modified bitumen and membrane roofing.
- Safely operate equipment such as winches, hoists, pumps and other maintenance tools.
- Work safely in confined spaces including crawl spaces and areas beneath homes.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for occasional evening and weekend emergency maintenance involving carpentry, plumbing and basic electrical repairs.
- Assist with snow removal and other seasonal maintenance responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of residential carpentry experience required. (Candidates with 5 years strongly encouraged to apply)
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least three of the following areas: door, lock and garage door installation and repair, drywall installation and plaster repair, professional interior and exterior painting, roofing repairs (asphalt, shingles, slate, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up, and membrane roofing, flooring installation and repair (hardwood, subfloors, vinyl, tile and carpet)
- Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
