Electrician (Master or Journeyman)

Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) is one of the nation's oldest and largest not-for-profit housing cooperatives, serving 1,600 homes in the historic Old Greenbelt neighborhood. We take pride in maintaining a safe, high-quality community for our residents and are seeking a skilled Licensed Electrician (Journeyman or Master) to join our Maintenance team.

Required Qualifications

Applicants MUST possess a current Journeyman or Master Electrician License.

HVAC experience is highly preferred and considered a strong advantage.

Position Summary

The Licensed Electrician is responsible for performing a wide range of residential electrical installation, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair work throughout GHI's homes and community buildings. This position requires excellent diagnostic skills, customer service and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

Essential Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair residential, electrical systems and equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, work orders and verbal instructions to complete assigned projects.
• Diagnose electrical problems using appropriate testing equipment, meters and diagnostic tools.
• Repair or replace: electrical wiring, circuit breakers, fuse panels, switches and outlets, lighting fixtures, relays, electric motors, exhaust fans, electric baseboard heaters, ceiling heaters, thermostats, electronic controls and other residential electrical components.
• Perform preventative maintenance on residential electrical systems.
• Safely operate company vehicles, power tools and specialized electrical equipment
• Maintain accurate work records and complete assigned maintenance requests
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls during evenings or weekends as needed.
• Assist with emergency repairs involving electrical, plumbing and basic carpentry when necessary.
• Work safely in confined spaces including attics and crawl spaces.
• Participate in snow removal operations during winter weather
• Respond to emergency situations such as floods, fires, storms or other property emergencies.

Qualifications

• Current Journeyman or Master Electrician License is REQUIRED.
• Completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program.
• Minimum of four (4) years of electrical experience
• Residential electrical maintenance experience preferred
• HVAC experience a significant plus
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety procedures and troubleshooting techniques
• Experience operating electrical testing equipment and power tools
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
• High school diploma or GED
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends as required

Physical Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders and work overhead
• Lift and carry up to 65 pounds
• Work safely in confined spaces including attics and crawl spaces
• Uses hand tools, power tools, testing equipment and other tools required for the trade
• Perform work in various weather conditions throughout the year
