Green Village Initiative is a Bridgeport-based nonprofit whose mission is to grow food, knowledge, leadership, and community through urban gardening and farming to create a more just food system in Bridgeport. We operate Reservoir Community Farm, a 1.7-acre pesticide-free urban farm in the heart of the city.
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organized leader to coordinate our 2026 Youth Summer Leadership Program (YSLP) at Reservoir Community Farm. The YSLP employs up to 10 Bridgeport high school students each summer in a paid, hands-on urban farming and food justice leadership experience. This is a part-time, seasonal position running May through September 2026, reporting directly to the Executive Director.
What You Will Do
- Lead day-to-day implementation of the Youth Summer Leadership Program
- Co-supervise up to 10 youth participants ages 15–18 at Reservoir Community Farm
- Deliver curriculum, coordinate workshops and field trips, and oversee graduation
- Manage timesheets, payroll, expense reports, data collection, and program databases
- Delegate responsibilities to the program assistant and intern
- Serve as the primary liaison between GVI, youth participants, families, and community partners
- Support farming and gardening activities alongside youth
- Participate in team events and training as needed
Schedule
- May to mid-June: Flexible preparation, orientation, and onboarding
- Mid-June to August 15: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM (with 30-minute lunch)
- August 15 to mid-September: Flexible remote wrap-up, approximately 15 hours/week

- Experience in youth development, education, mentoring, or managing teen groups
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical farmwork
- Reliable transportation to RCF, the GVI office, and local sites
- Commitment to food justice, equity, and GVI's mission
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek support
- Bridgeport residents and bilingual applicants strongly encouraged to apply

We operate Reservoir Community Farm, a 1.7-acre pesticide-free urban farm in Bridgeport's North End — a working farm and community hub where neighbors come together to grow food, learn, and build something lasting. Our programs include a twice-weekly Farm Stand, educational field trips, hands-on workshops, and the Youth Leadership Program, a paid summer employment and food justice leadership experience for Bridgeport teens ages 16–18.
