Job Overview
Green Thumb Commodities is seeking a reliable, hard-working Plant Operator to join our team at our Jefferson, SD grain elevator location. This hands-on role supports the day-to-day operation of the grain elevator, including receiving, storing, and shipping grain, as well as general facility maintenance. Duties
- Receive, weigh, grade, and unload incoming grain from producers and trucks
- Operate grain elevator equipment, including legs, conveyors, dryers, and scales
- Load outbound grain for shipment via truck or rail
- Perform routine facility and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs
- Monitor grain quality and storage conditions to prevent spoilage or contamination
- Operate skid steers, forklifts, and other mobile equipment as needed
- Maintain accurate records of grain weights, grades, and inventory
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
- Assist with seed cleaning, cover crop, and bird food operations during off-peak elevator times as needed
- Provide friendly, professional customer service to farmers and haulers
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in grain handling, agriculture, or a related industrial setting is a plus, but not required — we're willing to train the right person
- Comfortable operating machinery and learning new equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor for extended periods
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Willingness to work extended and flexible hours during harvest season
- Valid driver's license; CDL a plus but not required
- Team player with a positive attitude
Work Schedule
Full-time position. Hours may vary seasonally, with extended hours expected during spring planting and fall harvest.
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
