About the Role
As a Cashier, you'll serve as a key point of contact for customers at checkout, working directly with people in person throughout your shift. You'll process transactions accurately and efficiently while delivering friendly, attentive service. Your goal is to ensure every customer leaves with a positive impression of their shopping experience. This is an in-person, on-the-floor role — you'll be engaging with customers face to face, not working in a warehouse or fulfillment setting.
What You'll Do
Customer Service & Transactions
- Greet customers warmly and in person as they approach the checkout
- Accurately scan, weigh, and ring up items using the POS system
- Process payments (cash, card, mobile, gift cards) and handle change correctly
- Answer customer questions about pricing, promotions, and store policies
- Resolve basic customer concerns and escalate issues to a supervisor when needed
- Process returns, exchanges, and refunds according to store policy
Register & Operational Support
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer and balance it at the start/end of shift
- Bag or package items carefully and efficiently
- Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and stocked with supplies (bags, receipt paper, etc.)
- Follow loss-prevention and store procedures during transactions
- Assist with price checks, item lookups, and coupon/discount application
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other cashiers, floor staff, and management to ensure smooth store operations
- Communicate inventory or pricing discrepancies to the appropriate team
- Step in to support other customer-facing areas of the store during slow periods, as needed
- Participate in training and team meetings
