What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Blueberry Manager position at Green Spring Farms?
Green Spring Farms LLC is the Farm management company for Farmland LP. Farmland LP currently owns and operates over 19,000 acres of high value crops in northern California, northwest Oregon, and eastern Washington. We specialize in organic and regenerative production agriculture comprised of various annual row crops, wine grape vineyards, blueberries, and tree fruit orchards. This includes farms and crops we produce ourselves, contracts with onsite professional management, or partner tenants we lease land to.
We have an immediate opening for up to 2 Assistant Blueberry Manager(s) for our Tracy/Stockton area blueberry operation.
· Blueberry Farming. Under the direction and mentoring of the Blueberry Manager, directly manage day-to-day operations of the company’s organic, transitional or conventional blueberry fields. Manage all farming aspects and harvesting to deliver crops that meet or exceed planned yields, quality, and cost. Plan and direct new field establishment activity in the area or region you’re assigned.
· Asset Management. The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Blueberry Manager with all aspects of crop production from planning, expense budgeting, development budgeting, capital expenditure budgeting, and managing farm employees daily, and all field operations including land preparation, planting, cultivation, irrigation, and activities through harvest and delivery to processors, packers, off-takers, and buyers. Work in conjunction with the Blueberry Manager and the Shop & Equipment Manager to ensure you have proper, adequate equipment, and it is repaired and maintained on a timely basis to avoid delays. Plan for and procure any rental equipment as needed with Shop and Equipment Manager.
· Financial performance. Assist the Blueberry Manager in developing operating and development budgets and monitor expenses while delivering revenue and operating income to meet or exceed budgeted expectations of Management.
· Farming Practices. In conjunction with the Blueberry Manager and senior management, prepare seasonal and long-term plans for timely crop production practices ensuring sustainable, regenerative and organic agricultural practices and profitable financial performance.
· Irrigation and Water Rights. Manage and direct the company’s irrigation activities to ensure all crops are supplied with water as needed in a cost effective, precise, and timely manner. Keep accurate records of timing and application amounts, and methods of water applications.
· Management Information. Maintain accurate and timely crops, field work, irrigation, and fertilizer and chemical application records in AgWorld in partnership with the company’s Resource Manager. Manage farming and harvest activities to capture yield per acre and cost per acre by farm, field, and variety. Supply accounting with timely and accurate crop yield information.
· Labor Management. Train and document employees’ tasks and ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and tools to perform their job safely, efficiently, and cost effectively. Manage employee time and attendance to ensure accurate and timely recording of subordinates’ hours worked.
· Company Policies. Be knowledgeable of and enforce all Green Spring Farms company policies and procedures. Assist the Blueberry Manager in conducting training and documentation of all training and record keeping.
Support the Blueberry Manager by helping to organize and deliver employee training sessions, ensuring that all training activities are thoroughly documented and that accurate training records are maintained. Assist in investigation and documentation of non-compliance with company policy incidents.
·Employee Health and Safety Training. Assist the Blueberry Manager in training employees in all aspects of state, local, and federal safety and reporting requirements, including documentation, and reporting to HR.
· Staffing. In conjunction with the Blueberry Manager, oversee planning, hiring, training, and payroll management. Document both year-round and seasonal staff to deliver planned crops and services to meet budgeted goals. In conjunction with the Blueberry Manager, oversee, and delegate responsibility to staff. Ensure timely recruiting, hiring, and lay-off of seasonal staff, including labor contractors. Set the example for employees in getting the job done safely and effectively.
· Farm Labor Contractor Management. In conjunction with the Blueberry Manager, supervise, document, and approve farm labor timesheets and invoices.
· Agronomy. Working in conjunction with the Blueberry Manager, and outside consultants, making timely and cost-effective decisions regarding the growing both organic and conventional blueberries, including field preparation, planting, weed control, irrigating, pest control, and harvest. Document all applications and operations in our AgWorld software system.
· Property & Facilities Maintenance. Maintain all field and facilities, equipment yards, and field perimeters including fence lines to ensure they are safe, well maintained, and free of excess weeds, trash, and debris.
· Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
