Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, nurturing, and experienced Preschool Lead Teacher to guide a classroom community through engaging, play-based learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. The Preschool Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, organized, and developmentally appropriate environment while leading classroom routines, supporting assistant teachers, and building strong relationships with families.
This role requires strong classroom management, effective communication, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with young children in a nature-based setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily classroom routines and maintain a calm, engaging learning environment
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum experiences
- Support children’s social-emotional development, independence, and problem-solving skills
- Maintain active supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children
- Foster positive relationships with children, families, and team members
- Guide and collaborate with assistant teachers and support staff
- Maintain clean, organized, and intentional classroom environments
- Conduct daily communication and documentation for families
- Follow all licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies
- Support outdoor learning experiences in all seasons and weather conditions
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience working in an early childhood classroom required
- Experience leading a classroom preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- CDA, Associate’s Degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with play-based, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or nature-based education
- Knowledge of child development and positive guidance practices
