What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Chief position at Green Oak Charter Township Fire Department?
The Fire Chief position is a 40-hour position with flexible hours and after-hours large incident response expected. This position is responsible for the direction, administration and budgeting of the Department, as well as providing overall leadership and insuring a continuing culture of excellent customer service and employee growth. All of the Department’s firefighters are represented by the Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF) and the Fire Chief is responsible for labor relations matters. The Fire Chief is also responsible for maintaining positive community relations and interactions with various public safety and community leaders. Be the administrative head and have control of all activities of the Fire Department, including fire extinguishments, emergency medical services, hazard abatement, fire protection and fire prevention. He/she shall be responsible for the proper management, discipline and training of the members of the Fire
Department. Have the responsibility and authority to organize, manage and control the various divisions, which, in his judgment, may be in the best interest of the service; all subject to, and in such manner as provided by, the Ordinances and Resolutions of the Township of Green Oak. Have the responsibility and authority to establish suitable measures to put into effect the policies, Rules and Regulations, and practices and procedures necessary for the operations of the department. As the need arises, recommend to the Township Board the selection of new equipment, the sale of old equipment, etc, not necessary for use in the operation and maintenance of the department, giving reason for such action; and shall furnish annually to the supervisor a budget of the amounts required for the ensuing year.
Qualifications:
15 plus years of progressively responsible fire service experience, including chief officer experience. Michigan Firefighter II and Fire Officer III certifications (or ability to obtain same through reciprocity. Michigan Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license (or ability to obtain same through reciprocity. Bachelor’s Degree in fire science, management, public administration or a related field. Possession of National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification, Eastern Michigan University Fire Staff and Command certification or similar education. Michigan Fire Instructor I (or ability to obtain same through reciprocity. Blue Card Incident Commander certification.
Salary : $116,000 - $140,000
