Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Large Format Print Production Manager to lead our high quality printing operation. In this role, you will maintain the entire production process of large-format printing projects from file prep to application, finishing, and installation. Your duty is to ensuring top-quality output, efficient workflow, and timely delivery. Your required expertise in Adobe Illustrator, print technology, and finishing processes will drive the success of the print production aspect of this business. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with likeminded creative individuals to produce meaningful graphic products across various industries including (but not limited to) vehicle wraps, signs, banners, window graphics, and more. While the title states "Manager," you will not be responsible for overseeing or directing other employees. The only thing you will need to manage is your time and project priorities.
Duties
- Head-Up the setup, operation, and maintenance of two Mimaki JV150 large-format printers and related vinyl cutting equipment to ensure optimal performance, quality, and throughput.
- Coordinate with a graphic designer and to interpret production documents, layouts, and project specifications accurately.
- Manage color management workflows to ensure consistent color reproduction across all print jobs (Easy Peasy. Not as technical as it sounds)
- Oversee prepress processes using software such as Adobe Creative Suite and other prepress tools to prepare files for printing.
- Perform quality control checks throughout the production cycle, addressing issues related to print quality, mechanical adjustments, or material handling.
- Operate vinyl cutting machines, CNC equipment, and other manufacturing machinery to complete finishing tasks like routing, sanding, trimming, mounting, or installing.
- Maintain a safe work environment (i.e put cutting implements away after use, and keeping a clean work space)
- Order materials and consumables as they get low or run out to maintain ample stock for upcoming projects.
Skills
- Prior knowledge of large-format printers, and digital printing/laminating/cutting techniques.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and adjust printers as needed to produce high-quality prints.
- Proficient in graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator.
- Familiarity in color management principles to ensure accurate color reproduction across various media.
- Ability to decipher documents and technical specifications for diverse print projects.
- Understanding of typography, layout design principles, print advertising requirements, and quality control standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Inherent ability to maximize material usage to minimize waste. This includes looking at upcoming projects to see what can get grouped together to minimize changing out rolls, group projects with similar finishing specs, and set up long runs for overnight (unattended) printing. This requires planning ;)
