Green Mountain Marine Services (GMMS) and Grand Isle Gophers (GIG) are growing, locally owned construction companies specializing in marine construction, excavation, dock installations, and infrastructure operations. In 2024 we exceeded $2 million in revenue, and we are positioned for significant growth in 2025.
We are looking for a strong Operations Manager / Estimator to help take our business to the next level.
This is a hands-on, in-person leadership role — ideal for someone who thrives in construction operations, enjoys solving problems, and wants real responsibility and growth.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Operations Manager / Estimator is the day-to-day operational leader (M-Th 7am - 4pm F 7am-12pm Overtime as needed) for GMMS and GIG. This role bridges the gap between the office and the field by managing estimating, scheduling, materials coordination, and job execution.
You will work closely with the Owner to turn experience and knowledge into repeatable systems that keep crews productive, jobs profitable, and clients satisfied.
This is not a remote role and not a desk-only position. It involves office work, field coordination, site visits, field work, and real decision-making authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEstimating & Planning
Prepare estimates for excavation and marine construction projects
Review site conditions and project scope
Develop material takeoffs and job plans
Refine estimating templates and systems over time
Operations & Scheduling
Schedule crews, equipment, and subcontractors
Coordinate materials and deliveries
Anticipate and solve jobsite issues proactively
Keep work moving efficiently despite weather, access, or scope changes
Field Coordination
Regular jobsite visits
Support project managers and crew leads
Troubleshoot issues quickly and calmly
Communicate clearly with field staff and vendors
Systems & Process Improvement
Help build and improve internal systems
Use Google Workspace and Buildertrend (training provided if needed)
Track job progress and production
Identify inefficiencies and propose improvements
Communication & Leadership
Communicate professionally with clients
Coordinate with office administration
Work collaboratively with ownership and crew leadership
Maintain accountability without micromanaging
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSMust-Have
Construction experience (operations, estimating, or project management)
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong communication skills (field and office)
Ability to think quickly and make decisions under pressure
Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
Willingness to be in the field as needed
Basic computer proficiency (Google Docs, Sheets, email)
Strongly Preferred
Estimating experience
Basic accounting or job-costing knowledge
Familiarity with scheduling software or construction management tools
Ability to build simple systems and workflows
Leadership experience with crews or teams
Experience with Buildertrend is a plus but not required — we are still refining our own systems.
