A. PURPOSE OF JOB
Provide skilled work repairing and maintaining small and large lawn maintenance equipment and other various small engine equipment using the software and systems required to document all repairs while building relationships and solidifying a reputation of small engine competency within our community.
B. JOB DUTIES
- Diagnose and repair problems and/or failures in a wide variety of small engine equipment (e.g. mowers, edgers, trimmers, blowers, snow throwers, cut saws, tillers, aerator chain saws, sprayers, generators, etc.) to identify equipment and/or system repair and replacement needs.
- Clean, sharpen, and lubricate a variety of motorized equipment (e.g. reel mowers, blades, hedge trimmer, edgers, trimmers, etc.) to ensure units are operating safely and correctly prior to deeming them complete and ready for customer.
- Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on store equipment
- Maintain tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Fabricate metal parts as needed and/or assigned (e.g. cut, shape and assemble replacement parts, etc.
- Standard set of personal tools needed to completed most repairs is required.
- Prepare documentation (time and materials, job specifications, estimates materials, etc.) of written support in compliance with proper processing and department communication.
- Utilize store systems and software to intake, make notes and final tickets for equipment brought in for repair, tune up or just general check up. – Repair storm, Acenet, Vendor warranty platforms (Stihl, Toro, etc.)
- Request and properly charge out equipment and supplies needed to maintain inventory and ensure availability of required items to complete the necessary installation/repair.
- Order parts and properly charge / receive them using the inventory system in house.
- Inform all personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work.
- Updates communication board to ensure wait times for particular repairs are accurate
- Assist other personnel as needed.
o Expertise in making a sale or suggesting a type of product
o Assembly
o Customer service at the service counter
o Occasionally perform equipment deliveries and or make house calls using Company Van.
- Coordinate with store personnel and direct supervisor to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
- Act as the outdoor power equipment expert and assist with technical questions to make sales on the sales floor (Help the associate or manager – don’t take it off their hands completely)
- Perform other job duties as assigned / needed to support the store.
- Participate and stay up to date on all major brand training – continued education.
C. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Technician certification from Stihl and or other major OPE brand.
• Owns standard set of mechanics tools with ability to transport to and from work.
• Prior success as a small engine technician
D. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
• Demonstrates “opportunist” mentality – not trying to save the customer money but ensuring they get the best end result from a confident repair or replacement.
• Demonstrates understanding of time spent vs value captured, manages department using best practices
• Solid understanding of electrical systems related to small engines.
• Ability to solder components effectively for repair tasks
• Demonstrates situational awareness and uses a safety first mentality at all times.
• Effective communicate with a varied audience with clear and concise messaging
• Excellent negotiating, planning and organization skills
• Exemplifies professional presence in appearance and demeanor
• Technology proficient
E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Climb stairs and ladders using proper safety measures.
• Lifting up to 150 lbs.
• Minimum of 40 hour work week plus additional hours during peak seasons or as business necessitates
• Standing for lengthy periods (up to 10 hours or more)
F. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for ensuring all contributing associates and management alike are performing their part in the service equation to the desired standard in order to ensure consistent production and flow of business.
