Position Summary:
The Title 24 Energy Modeler is responsible for the development, analysis, and documentation of California Building Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6) compliance for a wide variety of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and multifamily projects. In addition to Title 24, the Energy Analyst must be able to be familiar with the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) with the ability to interpret, apply, and coordinate energy compliance requirements across a variety of project types and jurisdictions. This position plays a critical role in supporting project teams by developing energy models, preparing compliance documentation, coordinating design assumptions across disciplines, and ensuring projects achieve code compliance while meeting client expectations, project budgets, and schedules.
As part of a multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, the Energy Modeler works closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Architectural, and Project Management teams throughout all phases of design and construction to deliver coordinated, accurate, and efficient energy compliance solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Energy Modeling & Compliance-
- Independently develop, analyze, and complete Title 24 compliance reports and energy models for new construction and renovation projects.
- Utilize EnergyPro software to create and maintain accurate building energy models.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project requirements to establish compliance strategies and energy code assumptions.
- Prepare preliminary and final Title 24 compliance documentation suitable for client review, jurisdictional plan check, permitting, bidding, and construction.
- Coordinate building envelope, mechanical, lighting, service water heating, and renewable energy assumptions within energy models.
- Perform photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage analyses to satisfy current California Energy Code requirements.
- Upload and manage project documentation through CHEERS or other compliance platforms, as required.
- Stay current with California Energy Code updates, utility requirements, and industry best practices.
Project Coordination-
- Coordinate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Architectural teams to ensure energy model assumptions accurately reflect project design intent.
- Participate in interdisciplinary project meetings and design reviews.
- Identify potential energy compliance challenges early and recommend practical solutions.
- Communicate compliance impacts associated with design revisions and code changes.
- Collaborate with project managers and design engineers to maintain project schedules and deliverables.
- Support construction administration efforts by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and addressing energy compliance-related questions.
Technical Support & Quality Control-
- Review plans and specifications for consistency with modeled assumptions and compliance requirements.
- Perform quality control reviews of energy models, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate value engineering (VE) proposals and design alternatives for compliance implications and associated project risk.
- Assist engineering teams with energy-related design decisions and code interpretation.
- Maintain organized project records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Management-
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established budgets, schedules, and client expectations.
- Track project progress and coordinate deliverable milestones from schematic design through construction administration.
- Communicate project status, potential issues, and resource needs to management.
- Support proposal development, scope reviews, and fee planning for energy compliance services when required.
Construction Administration Support-
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) related to energy compliance and Title 24 requirements.
- Review applicable construction submittals for consistency with approved energy compliance documentation.
- Assist with plan check responses and incorporation of agency review comments.
- Support project teams during construction to maintain compliance with approved energy strategies.
