What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief of Staff position at Green Lion Search Group?
Green Lion Search Group has been engaged to lead a confidential search for a Chief of Staff supporting the Principal of a private, founder-led investment firm headquartered in Austin.
About the Role
The Chief of Staff is the Principal's trusted operational right hand: the person who keeps them organized, well informed, and operating at full effectiveness across professional and personal priorities. The seat is neither purely administrative nor purely strategic. You will build and own the systems, communications, and processes that keep the Principal sharp while contributing real substance to the work itself.
Responsibilities
- Own inbound communications: monitor and triage, draft correspondence on the Principal's behalf, manage follow-ups, and maintain a living relationship log. Apply real judgment about what deserves the Principal's time and what does not.
- Drive meeting readiness: research the people and context behind every significant meeting, attend where appropriate, and ensure outcomes and action items are captured and completed. Partner with the executive support team so the calendar reflects true priorities.
- Run projects and priorities: keep a clear picture of active commitments across professional and personal domains, own trackers, hold workstreams accountable, and liaise with portfolio contacts and outside partners on defined initiatives.
- Support content and visibility: assist with occasional public posts and internal communications, capturing the Principal's voice accurately, and flag moments where visibility adds value.
- Sequence the full picture: coordinate with the executive support team, who handle personal, household, and travel logistics, so that work and life stay coherent and well ordered.
Qualifications
- 5 to 8 years in demanding professional environments, with exposure to investment banking, capital markets, consulting, corporate development, or the family office world
- Prior experience as Chief of Staff to a single senior individual, rather than solely to a team or department, is strongly preferred
- MBA a plus
- Genuine fluency in financial markets, or the demonstrated drive to build it quickly
- Exceptional written communication and sharp judgment on when to act versus when to escalate
- Low ego, high follow-through, and a results orientation
- Comfortable in high-stakes rooms and able to represent the Principal with credibility
- Calm under pressure; raises problems early and arrives with solutions
- Actively curious about AI tools
Salary : $180,000 - $200,000
