Position Overview: Green Lake Conference Center (GLCC) is seeking a mission-aligned and experienced Greenhouse and Grounds Manager – Seasonal to oversee summer greenhouse operations and campus landscaping efforts. This leadership role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a strong knowledge of plants and horticulture, and takes pride in cultivating beautiful, welcoming spaces that reflect excellence and stewardship.
The Greenhouse Manager will provide hands-on leadership in the greenhouse and across grounds, guiding seasonal staff and volunteers while ensuring the health, vibrancy, and presentation of all planted areas. This position plays a key role in enhancing the guest experience through thoughtful landscape care and seasonal displays.
Key Responsibilities:
Greenhouse Leadership & Plant Care
- Oversee daily greenhouse operations, including seed and bulb starting, plant propagation, watering schedules, fertilization, and pest management.
- Monitor plant health and proactively address disease, nutrient deficiencies, or environmental concerns.
- Manage greenhouse inventory, organization, and seasonal planting plans in coordination with the Director of Maintenance.
- Provide daily direction and training to seasonal staff and volunteers assigned to greenhouse and grounds areas.
- Ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to GLCC quality standards.
Grounds Landscape & Oversight
- Lead planting, watering, pruning, and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees, and garden beds across campus.
- Design, implement, and maintain seasonal displays that enhance campus beauty and hospitality.
- Ensure high-visibility guest areas remain vibrant, well-kept, and welcoming.
- Coordinate mowing, edging, and maintenance of walking paths and gardening spaces.
- Oversee mulching, fertilizing, weeding, and integrated pest control following best practices.
Equipment & Safety
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of greenhouse and groundskeeping tools and equipment.
- Ensure safe handling of fertilizers, chemicals, and equipment in accordance with safety protocols.
- Report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
Mission & Hospitality Alignment
- Uphold GLCC’s mission of hospitality and stewardship by ensuring outdoor spaces reflect excellence, care, and intentionality.
- Support special events and seasonal campus needs as assigned.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Maintenance to support campus readiness and guest experience.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Alignment with GLCC’s mission and values.
- Experience in horticulture, greenhouse management, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or supervise seasonal staff or volunteers is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently while effectively guiding a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor, standing or sitting, for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
Schedule & Commitment:
- Part-time, seasonal position running from April to October (flexible start and end dates available).
- Typical work hours are flexible between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Sunday–Saturday, schedule to be determined based on availability and organizational need.
- Occasional evening or weekend support may be needed.
Key Working Relationships
- In addition to collaborating with other staff, the Greenhouse Manager will work closely with the Maintenance Department, Grounds Supervisor, and anyone who may need assistance, as well as other department directors, volunteers, guests, and work groups.
