Planting and Cultivation: Transplant or relocate plants as needed to maintain the landscape design.
Lawn and Garden Maintenance: Regular tasks include mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing, raking, and weeding lawns and garden beds. Landscapers ensure that grass, flowers, and shrubs remain healthy and vibrant.
Pruning and Trimming: They trim hedges, shrubs, and trees to maintain shape, safety, and overall aesthetics. This includes removing dead or overgrown branches and shaping plants according to design plans.
Irrigation and Water Management: Landscapers manage watering schedules, install and maintain sprinkler systems, and monitor soil moisture to support plant growth.
Pest and Weed Control: They apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides to prevent or treat plant diseases, pests, and invasive weeds, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Landscapers operate tools and machinery such as mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and aerators. They are responsible for maintaining these tools in good working condition.
Outdoor Structure Installation and Maintenance: Tasks may include installing benches, fountains, stone pathways, patios, and other landscape features, as well as repairing or maintaining existing structures.
Safety and Compliance: Landscapers adhere to safety protocols, including OSHA regulations, and ensure safe working conditions for themselves and the public.
Skills and Requirements
- 5 years of hardscape experience.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy objects, stand, bend, and work outdoors for extended periods Indeed.
- Knowledge of horticulture, soil management, and pest control preferred.
- Ability to operate landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Teamwork and communication skills for collaboration with clients and other professionals.
- Must be able to withstand working in high heat or cold weather.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
Work Environment
Landscapers work in a variety of settings, including residential gardens, commercial properties, public parks, and botanical gardens. Work may be seasonal or year-round, and often requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or in varying weather conditions.
