This role will support our affirmative legal team with case management, client communication, and careful preparation of immigration filings in meaningful humanitarian and family-based cases. While previous experience in an immigration law firm is important, we provide training, guidance, and mentorship to help the successful candidate learn our systems, procedures, and approach to high-quality legal work.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the affirmative attorneys and paralegals with humanitarian and family-based immigration cases from beginning to end, including:

  • communicating with clients in a respectful and professional manner, as well as with court staff and government agencies;
  • working closely with attorneys and paralegals to help cases move forward efficiently, thoughtfully, and with attention to detail;
  • preparing draft applications and forms for attorney review and feedback;
  • gathering, reviewing, and organizing supporting documents;
  • assisting with detailed client declarations and sworn statements for attorney review and feedback;
  • assembling applications and evidentiary packets for submission after incorporating attorney feedback;
  • calendaring and monitoring case-related deadlines, court dates, interviews, and hearings;
  • scheduling attorney-client meetings when needed or requested by the attorney;
  • preparing files and materials for attorney interviews and court hearings;
  • understanding and following ethical guidelines regarding the appropriate role of a legal assistant;
  • maintaining organized electronic and paper files to help safeguard client property and information;
  • keeping clear case notes and accurate hourly time entries in the firm’s cloud-based case management system;
  • participating in internal training and outside educational opportunities to continue developing job knowledge;
  • contribute to a team-oriented work environment; and
  • adhering to the firm’s commitment to ethical, professional, and high-quality legal service.

Experience:

  • At least one year of immigration law experience is preferred.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Language: Ability to communicate clearly in both English and Spanish, including speaking and writing, is required.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) is needed. Experience with case management software, document preparation, or immigration-related forms programs is helpful.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, respectful, and professional communication skills are important for working with clients and outside parties, helping draft declarations and filings, and collaborating with attorneys and team members.
  • Research and Problem-Solving Skills: Willingness and ability to research immigration-related procedures, including procedures for obtaining criminal and court records for immigration filings, and to use good judgment and practical problem-solving skills to help address case-specific issues as they arise.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, track details carefully, and use reliable systems to support timely, professional, and ethical work on each case.

Professional Attributes:

  • A dependable work ethic and a genuine commitment to providing careful, high-quality legal services to a diverse client community.
  • Good judgment and respect for confidentiality when working with sensitive client information.
  • Professionalism, kindness, and patience when interacting with clients, attorneys, team members, court staff, and government agencies.
  • A team-oriented mindset, including respect for colleagues, openness to training and feedback, and a willingness to take ownership of work while continuing to learn and improve.

What We Offer:

  • Training, guidance, and ongoing support from experienced attorneys, paralegals, and legal team members.
  • The opportunity to work on meaningful immigration cases that make a real difference for clients and their families.
  • A collaborative team environment that values professionalism, kindness, communication, and shared responsibility.
  • Opportunities to build skills, deepen immigration law knowledge, and grow professionally within a respected law firm.
