Green Door Nursery is seeking a self motivated and team orientated candidate to join us as a Sales Associate. Experience with cashiering and handling money is required for this position, as well as existing knowledge on tropical, rare, and landscaping plants.

Position Summary
We are looking to fill 1 - 2 Garden Center Sales Associate positions on a full time, or part time basis. Available hours during the summer are limited for off-season.

As a Sales Associate, you will be tending to, trimming, and cleaning up plants at the nursery, as well as working closely with clientele in designing small landscaping projects, helping the clients pick out the appropriate plants based on conditions, and following through with the sale of the plants. THIS POSITION REQUIRES standing for long periods, bending, lifting pottery, and being exposed to direct sunlight at length.

Upon hire, you are expected to already have adequate plant knowledge, specifically for rare and landscaping plants that thrive in our zone (10 A). You are expected to confidently convey this knowledge to shoppers, as well as assist in picking out plants that will work best for the conditions the client provides. This means you are expected to ask the right questions to make sure the client is purchasing something they can work with.

Our clientele expects a pleasurable, informative experience at our establishment. This position would be perfect for someone that is comfortable talking to strangers, exchanging ideas, and possesses a creative spirit with an interest in landscaping design.

Our nursery provides landscaping plants, rare and unusual indoor plants, trees, cacti, bromeliads, annuals, and more. Confidence in your knowledge in these areas is key!

During downtime, you are expected to maintain the area of the nursery that you are assigned. This includes trimming, training, weeding, and fertilizing. You are expected to be a self starter for this position, and keep your areas tidy without being told to do so.

We provide potting services, and expect our staff to be comfortable with potting plants to the client’s specifications.
As a Sales Associate, you are expected to upsell fertilizers, chemicals, and tools along with plants. We sell pottery, outdoor décor, and fountains as well– so learning base knowledge on all our products will be required.

Although we are hiring for cashier specific positions as well, our Sales Associates are expected to be comfortable handling money and working with our Clover Duo System to ring customers out if the assigned Cashier is not available.

You will be expected to perform cleaning in the store, from dusting pottery to sweeping.

It is required that you can lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive motions throughout the day.

You must be comfortable getting dirty! The vast majority of the job takes place outside.

You are expected to have reliable transportation and show up for your shift on time.

You will be expected to take phone calls professionally, and convey clear and detailed messages for the management team when they are not available.

Requirements
The Sales Associate MUST have existing plant knowledge with a willingness to learn more.

You must be comfortable working with large sums of money, cash included.

You must have good communication skills and provide a pleasurable, helpful demeanor to our clientele in person and on the phone.

You must be able to take detail oriented notes and messages for the management team.

You must be able to lift upwards of 50 pounds, and be willing to help clients load their vehicles with the plants and pottery they have purchased.

You must be able to stand for long periods of time, crouch, kneel, and perform repetitive motions.

You must have reliable transportation, and be 18 years old or older.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
