SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Pleasant View Educator Coordinator is to asses, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate and revise educational programming for all levels of the nursing personnel as required or requested.  The Educator Coordinator acts as a key resource in the continuing education of the nursing department and ensures mandatory requirements are being met by conducting regular and routine audits that can identify any below standard competencies that must be corrected with additional education up to and including developing, executing and training any deficiencies within the nursing department.


ESSENSTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:

  • Collect and assess data and information related to education needs including identification of trends, issues and supporting data to determine a comprehensive education program for the nursing department including classroom, clinical experiences and learning technologies. 
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive education programs to meet the ongoing competency and professional development needs of the nursing department and staff. 
  • Ensure all programs meet the Department of Nursing regulatory expectations and standards. Adhere to national and state education practice standards and stay abreast of current research into nursing education practice.
  • Provide timely and continuous consultation to the Director of Nursing and Administrator for immediate educational needs and to enhance continuing education, professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver/coordinate other educational programs as directed for RA/CNAs, CMAs, and Nurses (in-services, continuing education, specialty curricula). Will keep organized records and documentation of all training conducted. 
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and Administrator, plan, develop and evaluate the Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program authorized by the State of Wisconsin. Will use and comply with Certified Nursing Assistant course materials, maintain a classroom setting and adhere to all regulations required by the State of Wisconsin pertaining to this specialty curricula. 
  • For the Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program, will manage student class schedules, online educational activity and ensure classroom and on the floor skills training is completed and in compliance with the State of Wisconsin. Will schedule the students for certified testing upon completion of this course and maintain student records for seven years as mandated by the State of Wisconsin. 
  • Attend any out of the area conferences/education when requested to do so and in a timely manner share information that is learned, by inviting team members to a follow-up session. 
  • Represent PVNH in a positive and professional manner at all times; especially with all outside employees referred through the State of Wisconsin, and businesses. 
  • Conduct and evaluate all pre-employment physical assessments under the direction of the medical director to ensure all new employees are fit for duty. This information will be documented and given to Green County Human Resources Department for record keeping.
  • Fulfill the role and duties of a floor nurse and/or other duties/responsibilities when scheduling needs arise in the facility as directed by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator. 
  • Make written and/or oral recommendations to the Director of Nursing concerning the operations of PVNH and assist the Director of Nursing with the planning/implementation process for achieving set goals of the nursing department.
  • As Pleasant View Nursing Home is a 24-hour facility which requires continuous care for residents, must meet attendance standards by arriving to work on time, work all scheduled shifts and extra shifts that are agreed to work and have an overall excellent attendance record.

Personnel Functions 

  • Understand and follow the Green County and Pleasant View Employee Handbooks.
  • Follow facility guidelines and read and understand updates, memos, and educational sessions.
  • Make daily rounds as indicated observing that nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards and report these findings to the Director of Nursing. 
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with personnel within the nursing department and other departments within the facility. 
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility and shift.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and in-services and complete the make-up session in a timely manner.
  • Monitor that privacy and confidentiality of resident information is upheld.

Safety and Sanitation

  • Monitor personnel observing that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor that nursing service work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Monitor that all resident rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Monitor that nursing service personnel participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner.
  • Monitor that nursing service personnel follow infection control guidelines.
  • Monitor that nursing service personnel follow established hand washing guidelines. 

Resident Rights

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all residents’ personal health information.
  • Monitor that residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Monitor that nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering the resident’s room.
  • Monitor that nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the residents’ rights.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • This position calls for a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a registered nurse with a current unrestricted Wisconsin license, at least one (1) year experience in long term care and/or acute hospital care and a minimum of one (1) year nursing management experience. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Registered Nurse with a current unrestricted Wisconsin license.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to decide the time, place, and sequence of operations with a system or organizational framework, as well as the ability to oversee their execution. Ability to develop, analyze, and categorize data and information using changing and established criteria, in order to define consequences and to consider and select alternatives. Ability to compare, differentiate, measure and/or sort data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data.
  • Ability to manage and direct a group of workers. Ability to counsel and mediate. Ability to persuade, convince, and train others. Ability to interpret and advise on how to apply guidelines and standards to specific situations.
  • Ability to use advisory and design data and information such as technical manuals, resident records, admission and discharge documents, physician’s orders and reports, budget reports and summaries, nursing staff certification and licenses, payroll records, lab reports, drug reference manuals, incident/accident reports, medical charts, Bureau of Quality Assurance memos and audit reports, rules and regulations regarding long term care, billing statements, resident care plans, restraint consent forms, nursing guidelines, infection control manuals, personnel guidelines non-routine correspondence, professional nursing journals and periodicals, laws and educational curricula.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with nursing personnel, PV department supervisors, therapists, physicians, County Supervisors, nursing educators, hospital and clinic personnel, residents, residents’ families, lab technicians, pharmacists, clergy, insurance company representatives, vendor representatives, Administrator, and State and Federal health care regulators.
  • Ability to consistently communicate effectively and professionally with Green County citizens, clientele, employees and officials.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals; ability to calculate volume, ratios, and ability to interpret basic descriptive statistical reports.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to use functional reasoning development in performing duties within influence systems associated with supervising, managing, leading, teaching, directing and controlling.
  • Ability to apply situational reasoning by exercising judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving the direction, control, and planning of an entire program or set of programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to sit approximately 2-3 hours, stand approximately 5-6 hours and walk approximately 4-5 hours or longer when needed.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment, stoop, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, climb and balance approximately 1-33% and have hearing acuity, vision acuity far, vision acuity near, color vision and depth perception approximately 67-100% of the time working.
  • Ability to use both right and left hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and turning, fine manipulation, and speed work.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring simple, periodic adjustments. Ability to move and guide material using simple tools. Ability to operate mechanical lifts, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, and thermometers.
  • Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements in nursing practice.
  • Ability to exert mildly heavy physical effort in moderate to heavy work in an eight-hour work day, including lifting/carrying (0-34 lbs. approximately 34-66%; 35-100 lbs. approximately 1-33%).
  • Ability to push/pull residents and other necessary items related to performing the CNA role (1-24lbs. approximately 34-66%; 25-100 lbs. approximately 1-33%).
  • Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, tastes, odors, textures associated with objects, materials, and ingredients.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • In regard to environment, work is generally under moderately safe and comfortable conditions with potential factors such as odors, smoke, potential violence, noise, and disease.
