Green Chimneys School, a New York State 853 school, is designed for studentswho have been unsuccessful in a traditional educational setting and who requirea highly structured and supportive program. The therapeutic programincorporates academic, behavioral and emotional support in a comprehensivelearning environment to help each child achieve new skills and confidence, andreturn to their home school district with the best chance of success. Green ChimneysSchool offers: enriched academic curriculum meeting New York State standards,experiential learning environment, an innovative nature-basedapproach, focus on individual needs and abilities, on-site clinicalservices, therapeutic support, and high staff-to-student ratio.
The Literacy Specialist is responsible for providing one toone reading remediation services to students as part of tier threeinterventions in reading as well as provide assistance to teachers so thatappropriate evidenced-based strategies are employed in order for students toachieve literacy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s in Literacy or Special Education preferred
- Prior field placement in special education preferred
- NYSED Certification in appropriate area
- Secondary certification in the Orton-Gillingham approach or other similar phonics programs such as REWARDs and/or Wilson Reading OR in the process of obtaining such certifications.
This is a 20 hour per week appointment. Not benefiteligible.
The salary for this role is $65,000 to $68,713.00 per year.
