What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Teacher (Special Education) position at Green Chimneys?
The Teacher is responsible for teaching a self-contained or departmentalized class during a 12-month school year. Specific duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the subject matter the Teacher will teach.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop an I.E.P. (Individualized Education Program) covering a twelve month period on each student assigned and complete progress marks and comments as indicated on the IEP.Ensure that students receive related services and accommodations as outlined in the I.E.P.Complete all necessary reports and documentation as per agency standardsMaintain an attractive and educationally appropriate classroom environmentShare in the maintenance of building bulletin boardsRead, understand and comply with policies, procedures and expectations outlined in the school and agency manualsParticipate in all meetings as required and school activities, as described by program calendar including but not limited to:
Parent/Teacher Conferences, open house, staff meetings, CSE meetings, Red Flag Reviews, etc.Work cooperatively with all departments in our agency and communicate student concerns with the treatment team and supervisorDevelop plans for effectively communicating progress of students with families, related service providers, and residential staff (if applicable)Assist in all ways to create the best possible education program for our studentsResponsible for the accountability and supervision of all students at all timesImplement Common Core State Standard curriculum to students with varying disabilitiesEstablish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the studentsPlan and teach lessons with a balanced approach of instruction, demonstration and independent work that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigateProvide direct and indirect instruction to students in a positive and professional mannerMaintain an accurate and complete grade book, and record of other required data to prepare and verify written reports on students, as required by laws, school districts and administrative requirements.Create and maintain lesson plans and plan books that address student needs while meeting state standardsModify and differentiate curriculum to meet individual student needsUtilize curriculum that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds and needs of the students served.Implement a positive behavior management system for the classroom, providing crisis intervention when neededDirects teacher assistants,
1:1 aides, student teachers, volunteers and/or learn and earn workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual studentsOther duties as assignedEducation/Experience:Associate’s Degree required; Master’s in Education preferredPrior field placement in special education preferred.Licensure/Certification:NYSED CertificationWill consider uncertified candidates who are able to meet NYS Teacher Certification requirements within 18 months.Salary $44,850-$67,768 per year depending on education, experience and if the teacher works the summer months. This is a full time benefit eligible position.
