Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the underwriting team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee daily workflow, loan assignments, and production metrics to ensure timely and accurate credit decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, investor, and agency regulations (FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional).
- Review and approve complex loan files; provide guidance on DU/LP findings and agency overlays.
- Maintain and enforce underwriting policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Monitor turn‑times, productivity, and pipeline aging to meet service‑level expectations.
- Partner with processing, closing, and production teams to resolve conditions and improve loan flow.
- Stay current on industry changes, agency updates, and regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits; ensure corrective actions are implemented when needed.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct management of underwriting staff.
- Responsible for staffing, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Oversight of department workflow, quality, and compliance.

Education
Qualifications
- BS degree in a business-related field (i.e. Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Business).
- Active FHA DE and VA LAPP/SAR certifications strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of DU and LP, including interpretation and documentation requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage high‑volume environments with strict deadlines.
- Proven track record of maintaining low defect rates and strong audit performance.
- Minimum 10 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA.
- Minimum 5 years of underwriting management or team‑lead experience.
